Thread: is it that bad?
crafters are dropping like flies on my server. eventually i want to explore the proffession but which part of it should i go into?
what about it makes you want to quit crafting?
the guys that dropped it are very well known and made a killing every week... why did they let it go?
Then I realized that there are people willing to slog through all of that to get the quality resources, who have the enhancers and are supplying enough weapons to feed the whole player base. I went and bought a weapon from one of them and worked on my combat skills.
The question you have to ask is, "Do I really enjoy looking for resources?" The few people that do will excell at crafting and the rest will not.
Constantly having to track down resources all the time is getting really old and a lot of people are just getting tired of it. I know I am. I love the profession (Master Arch, Master Art) but this spending 8 hours a day tracking down a resource because of a shift is getting old, especially with having to run everywhere. It might be better with mounts and vehicles.
I spend 3 to 4 days a week and hours at a time tracking down a resource that shifted because I need so many diff resources in large quantities.
I am getting to the point where I am just going to stop making things and concentrate on 1 resource and dump my 14 heavies on it and just sell it.
I also am Master Art, Master Arch but I started as a Resource Seller. I love hunting for resources. It's like a treasure hunt and I love hunting for treasures. However, I did make some conscious decisions:
- Put every harvester on the same resource. You don't lose your harvesters and it makes maintenance easy to keep up with.
- Sample every item and pick the best one to harvest. UT, OQ and Resistance are what I look for.
- Don't plant on a resource past Saturday unless I'm totally bored; it could be gone Tuesday.
If you don't love travelling across the world, finding pockets of resource that no one has found, dodging red cons... then understand that you will be buying your resources.
If you buy your resources here are some tips:
- Find a couple of resource sellers and convince them to give you a 1.5x or 2.0x price
- Tell them that you will provide them <something> if they give you good service for several runs.
- Check the Biz. If you find someone who is selling several 1000 of something check their name and send them an email asking for a bulk price on a resource that they might not have placed on the Biz.
I'm having a great time, have so many orders I refer them to other people and enjoy my gaming time immensely.
I started as an artisan and went to Weaponsmith. I was all excited to be a guy who made people their guns. I thought:
- This kind of crafting is all new toMMORPG and I want to try it.
- It will be a lower-maintenance job than trying to reach level 50 (or the SWG equivelent.).
Turns out it takes A LONG time to be a good crafter with lots of boring clicking. Plus you need to build and maintain relationships with customers so you need to be on a lot. I know play a Ranger/Rifleman and I am having a ton of fun.
So the point of this ramble is that I think a lot of people tried crafters when they first started the game, and discovered it wasn't quite right for them and quit the profession. I expect that new servers with lots of new players will see a a ton of crafters, and then people will discover the profession is not for them and go do other things.
