Thread: Common Sense Issues
Bookcases need books. Simple as that. Architects and Artisansalike should be able to craft books to put into thebookcases. The books could be simple stories of other player's adventures, or the books could hold information on people not on their friends list such as their names and their businesses etc. The books could also hold extra datapad information. People could have one book each for every planet with 100 datapad waypoints in them. Then when players are going to travel, they can exchange the data with that book, and have a new set of waypoints to follow. Or the books could hold screenshots with captions. So that players can forever remember thier adventures in actual sight.
Armoires and Chests should be able to hold clothes, armor and weapons, and resources etc.Theycould be simply accessedjust like an extra inventory. I find it very slobby and not very cool looking to walk into someone's house and see that ugly storage room with stuff sprawled all over the floor. Even the smaller houses would be more spacious and be able to have more people in it, rather than waste one of the two rooms.
Simple content issues like that make better the houses that Architects make. Not only that it adds another level to the game.
Love the book idea.
I've always thought it was ridiculous that I can't store things in an armoire or chest. When I first started making furniture I wasn't even going to bother with those because I thought there was no way anyone was going to buy something just for looks. OK - so I was wrong about that - but it's stilla good idea to make them functional.
How about this? Books have to be written by entertainers but manufactured by artisans.
Not to put a damper on your ideas but have you thought about the database implications ? Remember the melon incident?
I totally agree on the armoire, chest and tool chest holding things. Right I drop a backpack and use it as a storage device. If a backpack works just take the coding from it and put it on a chest.
Books, seems a little silly to me. First like the other guy said why would you waste server space and bandwidth to store and download book content? Second, who would want to read a book during a game? If someone wants to read a book get offline and read a real book. I think your book idea is in no way common sense.
Sorry, I don't remember the Melon incident
sorry.
Anyway I see your point about the books Mkappus, but then what the freaking heck good are bookcases? I think at the very least there should be books, that are extra datapads you can store on the bookshelf to make it look full. That way you could have one for each planet etc. Something useful like that. Other than that I do see your point.
The Melon incident : Recently they made a change that all new characters will now only receive 1 melon (food item) when starting out instead of 3. Apparently these extra melons were identified as occupying a large amount of space in the database and just sitting there and not being used.
Now think what would happen if you want to add books and make more containers. More strain on the database, more lag etc.
The melon debacle? HAHA. That cant be true. If it is that is really funny. Haven't they ever heard of compression software?
You know I've heard about the melon nerf, and I was just wondering about that. Were they given in a stack or as multiple items? Food is stackable, which means a stack of 3 takes the same database space as a stack of 1, so why would reducing that save space? Sounds to me like someone in power doesn't understand databases.
Yes, their database layout is a mystery. I mean it must be obvious that you would just have one record for "Melon" with a quantity field. Having a 1000 melons in this stack would not make a difference. It seems that they have some other way of storing things.
