Thread: Would you guys recomend this proffesion?
Unfortunately, I think that's a little to vague to answer.
I love it, and I hate it. It can be VERY frustrating. VERY. Is that clear? VERY Frustrating.
On the other hand, it's incredibly rewarding to hand someone theirnew deed when they're all excited about it. And I love the fact that I am developing a regular clientele for my furniture shop.
I built a PA hall tonight, although the process started last night. Let me tell you, while it was incredibly rewarding to see it go up, I won't be building more of those. That, my friend, was not fun.
So I guess I'm saying it has it's ups and downs. It's not for the impatient or people hoping to just level through real quick. It's a lot of hard work, more so than any other char I've played in a MMORPG. You can easily be crushed by things as simple as a critical failure on a large project, or by an unfriendly resource shift. It can literally take DAYS to recover from big hits like that.
Think of it this way, we gamble big, but the rewards are there if you succeed.
It's hard, you need LOTS of patience. I find it very rewarded to be creating something that has such a large impact on players and the landscape.
If you want to be an Architect for the joy of creation, go for it. Don't however think you are going to make a billion dollars without some hard work and business savy.
Cons: BUGS! Get em off me! ![]()
Pros: Seeing the excitement someone gets from placing their house, that you made. ![]()
Very well-said here. It's painful being an architect right now. You will be destitute half the time, and any time that you actually have money, you'll immediately have to re-invest it in more resources. Of course, the distinct advantage architects have is their ability to control PAs. My building of a PA and offering of houses was the cause of me becoming the(essential) leader of a player city on Dantooine on Eclipse.
I would not recommend it either. The pros just do not outweigh the costs, to be honest.
Most of our droids are worthless and are for looks only. The uses are limitted. The experience grind is rough, especially at the novice level. Occasionally are modules will just suddenly "not work" because of a patch. Return customers are few and far between. Our "best" Droid will only sell for about 10-15k, and it can be found in the third level of a single line.
The pros? Well, occasionally someone will want a Crafting Droid or a Probot, but usually that's about it. The "idea" of Droid Engineering is cool, and I guess we've heard that they're going to fix us someday in the future (Q's radio talkshow), but as of right now this instant, no, Droid Engineering is absolutely not worth the time invested.
Will it change in the future? I sure hope so.
NO !! Do not make the same mistake we did !! Save your sanity and your time, choose something else.
When you read on this board that the DE profession is now usefull and fun then will be the time to be a DE.
Untill then, enjoy the game by doing something else, unless you like wasting your money and ressources and time on grinding to the top blueprints in hopes to sell probots by the dozens to regain the money you invested in it and to answer the same questions all over by one sentence : "Sorry, the DEVs have yet to fix the 100s of bugs in the DE profession, your droid is only cute and make sounds for now."
Yeah ...
Well, there's another way to see it too. That would be that of a gambler.
The profession is broken, we all know that. It's rarely played, except by people who have the hope that it will be fixed someday. Everyone else gives up on it when they learn how little reward there is to how much you must invest.
So, if you bear with it all, and get up high in skill, and put up with the lack of rewards, and then someday they fix it, then Boom! You're one of the few Droid Engineers at that level who can immediately reap the rewards they've just been bestowed upon.
Is it a gamble? Heck yeah. It's possible that that day may never come, when suddenly we're amazingly useful. But if you're the wild type who likes to invest a ton of time and money only so you can wait until the rewards appear......sure, we may have something for ya.
I enjoy being a DE... lol even with all of the bugs. I find people sending me tells all the time wanting my Droids. I end up interacting with lots of new people and I spend time with them letting them know the bugs and give them lessons in how to actually use the Droids. I love that...having a blast.
There are issues...lots of them...lol
Its insanely resource intensive (Flew through 20k in Steel yesterday in about an hour and only made 60,000xp)
Like the others say... we play in the hopes that one day all will be well and we receive that Love...lol
