Thread: Petition for Functional Houses
My house storage since the patch has now successfully been reduced to that of a backpack. This is insane. How is it a house can store less than I can carry on me. Houses have now been reduced to nothing more than an expensive backpack and shop, where you cannot even store the materials for the things you put on the vendors, because the storage limits are too low. Why is it, with a good pack equipped I can carry 110 items on me, but my house won't hold 75 items. It is a house for crying out loud. You can't put things inside containers in your house anymore either. It still counts against your total storage limit and actually the container adds another item to the amount being stored. This has rendered furniture useless as it just takes up space and provides no real function. There is one thing that us architects will not be able to sell. This lowers the value of a house for the masses who just want to use it to store things. They don't need a house, they just need the bank, which they can store more in. This has effectively taken the housing tree of the architect profession and thrown it out the window. The only reason to learn the furniture tree is to get the structure crafting increases, and there is no reason to learn the construction tree either. So all we really would use as architects is the Installations tree to make harvesters, and factories. It seems to me that this is a major oversight. I am going to ask that everyone join me in getting the attention of the Devs to have this fixed, and implement the following things:
Storage Limit For Houses Increased to:
Small House: 150 Items
Medium House: 200 Items
Large House: 250 Items
In my opinion these are pretty tame storage limits, but will be much more functional for the person who has a vendor, some furniture, some crafting stations and some resources lying around.
Furniture (much less important to worry about):
Beds: Lay down on them
Bookshelves, Tool Boxes, Armoires, Chests: Allow for storage properties (nested inside the house for instance 10 items on a bookshelf count as 1 item in the house).
Tables: Make it possible to place items on top of a table without having to do the stairs trick.
Lights: Make lights other than the torch emit light.
Couches and Loveseats: 2 places to sit on a loveseat,3 places to sit on a couch.
These changes will increase the values of houses and furniture. This will also make actually using a larger sized house be more feasible which would add a greater value to them as well. Right now the only value they have is like furniture. Aesthetics, and that is it. The price is dictated by the amount of materials used, but the value is dictated by its usefullness. Player cities will fail if people will not use a house because they are not functional. Everybody please join me in this petition to get the housing issue fixed. This issue affects everyone in the game, and affects the in game economy greatly. Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for your support.
Devs: This not an attack on you. This is just trying to illustrate that people want this functionality, and that it is important to these people. Please, if you are reading this, make this happen. Thank you.
My small Naboo houses take up two lots, so wouldn't it be allowed 150 items as is?
I forget what my Medium Naboo house takes up for lots, but it was 3 or 4. This would meant 225 or 250.
Are there small houses that only take up 1 lot?

Ok, my reaction is solved for the time being. Though I did destroy a lot of stuff yesterday, and am not truly happy about it, but that is ok. I can get it back as it was just little piddly stuff not worth worrying about.
It sounds like the numbers that i had put down for storage are going to be put into place, but not based on this petition. The Storage issue was a bug that came out of the patch. I am happy that they found it and are fixing it. I am very happy about it. I can deal with a 150 item limit in a small house, and moving up the ladder from there. The word is 75 items per lot. That works for me. If they are going to increase it, then that is even better, but I can deal with this. 50 items was just insanely low. I will continue to go about my day, anda big thank you goes out to the Architect Correspondent for letting us know that this issue is something that is being handled, as well as several others.
Couches and loveseats are going to be made for multiple seats on them. That is a good thing. Other issues will continue to be fixed in the near future. Especially from the outcry that has been made. I would have continued on my current profession of Architecture, but I wouldn't have been as pleased about it, but I do enjoy the profession. All that I really want to see now is the implementation of better storage and functionality from furniture, but as I said before, it really isn't all that important. There are far greater issues that need to be resolved in and out of the crafting fields.
Again I thank our correspondant for the update.
Take a moment to look; these area all part of the main issue wiht our beloved profession

With the patch they changed item storage to 50 items per lot taken up. They have or are going to hot fix it to 75 items per lot with a max of 250. Also, items on the vendor do not count against the structure total.
We all complained that a small house could store as much as a large house. They fixed it for us. Everyone was probably hoping that small would stay 250 and everything else would go up, guess what database sizes dictated that wouldn't happen.
We complained they fixed it and now we aren't happy with the fix?
All in all it is a good fix, just one problem with it that someone else has pointed out
Small house 2 lots = 150 items
Large house 6 lots =250 items
3 small houses 6 lots =450 items
Now the market for small houses may actually pick up and large houses will be less popular.
Here is the official post
OK, here's what we are going to do in tomorrow's update:
- You will get 75 items per lot, instead of 25, up to a max of 250 items per house.
- No vendors nor their contents will count against the house limit.
- Factory crates will count as 1 volume, not 5.
We realize this doesn't get you all the way back to where you were, but it should improve the situation. A fuller solution cannot be accomplished by the morning, which is why we're only going this far. We want to do as much as we can as quickly as we can.
There are other things that we can and will be doing, but they will take longer.
(Since I am sure someone will ask: why not just roll back the code? Because it was multiple integrations and changelists, and it'd be somewhat hairy. This is safer).
