Thread: BER question for soon to be master
Does a 13 BER heavy out way a 10 BER medium as far as production vs maintenance cost / energy cost if they are used soley for mining grinding grade resources?
(In this profession out of desire not a holo and learning as I go)
Thanks
I'm a greedy ()*&$)# and I don't care about maintenance costs, so BER13 for me
just on a cost basis, if you're pulling 3 BER more (heavy vs medium) a day, you can recoup the extra maintenance/power cost just by selling some of the extra 3 you're pulling a night, so 13 is the way to go IMHO.
Thanks,
Thats kinda what I was thinking but wanted some feedback on it ![]()
Yes, it's really fairly simple.
10,000 ore selling at 2.7 profit = 27,000
13,000 ore selling at 2.6 profit = 33,800
From the sounds of it your wanting to get the lowest CPU(cost per unit) on your side, then a Medium BER 10 is the way to go. Though if you want more resources to sell to make a bigger profit at slight higher costs then Heavy BER 13 is they to go. If you do a bit of searching this question did come up and we went into greater deals into it then I'm going to do it here.
We found that in most cases a Medium harvester would cost around .29-.33 CPU and the Heavies was .47-.54 CPU, if memory serves me. These figures was just based off the Maintains cost alone, as it was assumed that one mined his own power and power is really cheep to mine.
Seriously - looking at the operating cost on these is really really a red herring. Your goal is more resources - to use directly as an artisan or to sell for money.
Hard numbers: assume a 60% concentration spot, power cost of 0.25 credits per energy unit, and selling the resource for 2.5 credits per unit. Also, assume redeed every 7 days and factor that into the operating costs.
A BER10 medium will pump up 8,640 units of resources in a day, for a cost of 0.25 credits per unit, giving a profit of 19,431.
A BER13 heavy will pump up 11,232 units of resources in a day, for a cost of 0.29 credits per unit, giving a profit of 24,827.
You can look at the 0.25 vs 0.29 credit per unit operating cost all you want. You can stare at it, or pray to it, or wax poetic about it. Personal, I'll take that extra 5,396 credits a day profit from the BER13 heavy every day and quietly bank it.
Mediums are useful as a stepping stone to heavies. No matter if you are mining for money or mining for resources, heavies are your long-term friends.
