Since the patch was release that allows architects to experiment on harvesters, I've been having some problems. I've just been living with it since then in hopes it might get fixed, but now I'm wondering if they're going to get fixed or if the devs intended to cut the output in half. I hope someone can answer this.
Now, some of you maybe saying "You idiot! harvesters built before the patch have a low BER" or something like that, but that's not what I'm talking about. I spent quite a long time figuring up how harvesters work. Hopefully I can explain this so not too many people post back saying "WHAT THE HECK???"
This is how harvesters used to work.Each harvester has a set BER (base extraction rate or Spec Rate as listed on the Operate Machinery radial menu option) For this example I'll use 10, which would be a fully experimented Mineral Mining Installation. Now, say I find a 78% pocket of a resource I'd like to harvest. I was able to figure out exactly how many resources I would get, how much time, money, and power it would take. It's very simple. You take .78 ( the percentage of the resource) times 10 (your spec rate) and that comes to 7.8 (which should be close to your ACTUAL RATE which is the rate your harvester actually works at)
That's very simple and easy to find out, but then I found out that if you took 7.8 (your Actual Rate) and multiplied that by 110 ( the some of you Maint/hour=60 and Power/hour=50) you would come up with 858 which is about how many resources you SHOULD be able to gain in an hour. Using this I could caculate that after 7 days of harvesting I would have used 10800 credits and 8400 power and that would give me a total of about 144k of whatever I was harvesting.
Now, having said all that, what I want to know is if the current state (which only produces half of this formula) is intentional or if it is a bug. Can anyone out there verify or deny this?
Thank you for your time.

Also... sorry if this has been answered. I've only just started to look at the forums, but have been playing since beta 3.

I have not a clue as to where you got the idea of adding the *credits* and *power* together! That would be tremendously outrageous "logic", even for SOE.
In the FAQ, located here:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=architect&message.id=44120
it says:
=================================
Q-3.9: What does BER mean?
A-3.9: BER stands for Base Extraction Rate. This is a term for the amount that the harvester will collect in one minute if at 100% density for the resource. Shown in the harvester operation window as Kg/h.
=================================
So, in your example of a BER10 on a 78% spot, you will pull 7.8 units per minute. That is 468 an hour, or 11232 a day, or 78628 in 7 days.

I have no idea why you're plugging maint and power rates into your extraction rate formula.
Anyway, ignore the "Kg/hr" on your display. The number you're seeing on the operate window is resources per minute, not per hour.
The formula you want to use is (BER/100) * Resource Percentage * 60 minutes * 24 hours (or 1440 minutes in a day)
Or in your case 7.8 * 60 or 1440 which is 468 an hour or 11,232 a day.

Well... before the patch that is how they worked... I would always get exactly what I calculated... I guess I never saw the post about it being BER x percent = 1 min.
*sigh* oh well
Thanks for the answer

You're mistaken. It's always been that way, even in beta.
But that's ok. Have fun.
