Thread: Question about getting a good Rating on a Crafting Station
Just an addendum to ZenDragon's post.
The sub componants are all Master Artisan Componants (except the droid storage units which are made by Novice Droid Engineers, but have a master make them and exp to as high as they can get).
All the artisan componants (Control Unit, Electronic GP Module, EnergyDistributor and the Micro Sensor Suite) require only Overal Quality EXCEPT the Micro Sensor. The later requires OQ and Conductivity in 66:33 ratio.
So, using 97% Control Units, GP Modules and ED's at 95%, with Copper having 990 con and 899 oq, I was only getting an 86% Micro Sensor. Not sure what the final construction would be since I crit failed on my attempt to make it and lost all the resources!
I'll post tonight my success since I was a bit peeved last night when I crited and just loged out!

Another addendum:
The droid storage compartments don't need a master DE, to experiment them artisan skill points are used.
For the OP - make sure you use the right tool/station combo: food/chem, structure and armor/clothing station require a weapon/droid/general tool and station (artisan skill points used for experimentation) and to craft a weapon/droid/general station use the structure tool/station (architect skill points used for experimentation).
At least this is my experience (wasted some good material with the wrong tool/station combo), but maybe I am just bugged...

Salome, I'm not sure what you mean by this.
All crafting stations are made with a structure tool at a structure crafting station.
The optional components are made using WDG tool at WDG station.
The basic is made with just metal and mineral and all that matters is conductivity. The theoritical max is +15. So you put that conductivity 935 copper in there along with some ore or gemstone for the mineral (i.e., something without conductivity so you can stretch your copper further), and you can produce a station with a Functionality Rating of about +14.62.
For the "advanced" you want to use the same high-conductivity stuff that you would use for the basic, and then add in the optional subcomponents. Those subcomponents can add another 30 points to your Rating. But they have to be very very high quality to do it - 85% and above. The quality of those components is driven totally (I think) by the OQ of the resources used. The theoritical max is +45.
If you are serious about doing high-end crafting stations, you might want to pick up a copy of the "Crafter's Assistant". It's an Excel spreadsheet that lets you put in your resources and see what kind of Micro Sensor Suite, Droid Storage Compartment, etc you can turn out with those resources, and then what kind of final rating on your crafting station you'll get.
What I mean is this: I can't (and I really tried many times) experiment a crafting station if I use a structure tool and a structure station. I only get the option to make a schematic or a prototype, no experimentation. If I use a weapon/generic tool and station, I can experiment and craft nice rate 40 stations. Only if I want to craft weapon stations, I must use the architect tools because here it is the other way. I tried both public and private stations, but it stays as it is.
Weird, I know.... thats why I made the remark I am probably bugged. And yes, I am master artisan/architect since weeks :-)

My understanding is that if they are 50% they contribute a "0" to the Rating. If they are less than 50% they actually make the rating worse. (I know a guy who made a -38.xx for testing purposes). If they are greater than 50% they make the rating better.
I routinely get 14.78 on my "basic" ones. One time I tried adding in just the Droid Compartments (+96%) and got it up to about 19. I also tried with crappy droid compartments and made it worse.
