If the furniture didn't count against my storage limit, I would consider decorating. I just cannot afford the space in inventory that the furniture takes up, so empty house except for my backpacks of items.

more functionality for furniture would indeed be nice, it's so lame that you have a large couch in your home and only one person can sit on it. Beds with a lounge feature would be nice too, if only for a roleplay thing. As it stands, furniture is nothing more than aesthetic clutter. Data terminals should have some functionality as well, have it where it's like a bulletin board in game, people can put scheduals for parties, advertise things they are selling etc, and you can check them in your home, this will cut down on the dozens of idiots spamming in front of the coronet star port. Just an idea but this would be nice.

Furnature would rock if

1. We could customize the colors
2. We had more schematics
3. They did not take up item slots in a house
4. Decorating yoru house wasn't a painfully frustrating process.

I noticed today that the /move back n command does not work. When did that happen?

It depends, some homes are buggy so that the /move forward or /move back command doesn't work. I've experienced this back a few months ago so it may have been fixed on later homes but the survivng ones get the shaft. Who knows.

I've never really had a problem with the command, but if you are, perhaps you should type it out in its entirety:

/movefurniture <back|forward> 1-50

That's always worked for me.

In my travels about the Lowca galaxy, very few people furnish their homes. This is likely because most people use houses as storage units and with the appearance of merchant tents, there aren't very many house-based shops anymore (unless the oldies don't want to move). I think, however, that furniture should have more roles than to beautify your house. Here's a few examples of how to make furniture more desireable:

1.) Cabinets and armoires should be able to hold inventory items such as clothing, weapons, jewelry, etc. This goes the same with chests and toolchests. Bookshelves and data terminalsshould be able to hold datapad items, such as schematics, waypoints, etc. Data terminals have too many subcomponents to be simply for aesthetic value.

2.) Couches and loveseats should allow for the seating of at least two people and beds (even couches) should perhaps allow a 'lounge' or 'lay down' command. Furthermore, the large bed should allow for two people to 'lounge' or 'lay down' on it.

3.) Free-standing lamps and desk lamps should actually illuminate an area. We've had hyperspace for twenty thousand years but we still need to usean open flameto see in the dark? That doesn't make much sense.

On decorating, we simply need an addition command or two. NPC housing and structure interiors look better than ours and I'm jealous. Here's some examples of possible decoration commands:

1.) A command that allows us to move objects vertically (up/down). Using the stairs for this is a hassle and requires too much experimentation on heights.

2.) A command that allows us to increase or decrease the pitch of an object. That way, when people put staves, axes, etc. on the walls, the objects and criss-cross one another, or a Krayt Dragon Skull can lay flat against a wall.

These are just some examples of things I'd like to see to make my profession a tad easier and a lot more useful.

Well there are some things that are needed (basically just movement along the Z axis, and rotation along the X or Y) but there are still ways to make nice looking homes and give things function. You just have to try at it. You want to have storage inside of a cabinet? Then put something that stores items (packs) inside of a cabinet and wha la, the lighting issue is well known and either will be fixed soon or never but just bitching about it really doesn't do much, and (by all means no offense) most people don't really know what would look good in a house. Just a couple rows of seats, a table, and a plant beats nothing of course but a lot of people want a nice looking house and just don't really know what all the furniture looks like or how well some of them can go together. It's my job to decorate homes and I really just get people asking me to make it look neat, wild, and with an aquarium since they have no clue how to do it themselves. That is why a lot of homes are vacant not that people don't care it's just that they are afraid to try,after allit can take hours away from something they know they'll enjoy.

Unfortunately furniture was never high priority on dev or player lists

You won't see anything new until the expansion.

indeed it is useless.

I managed to decorate 2 rooms in my medium tatooine house and then found that I had used up all the storage in the house, I still had 3 more rooms to decorate. So either i need to get another house or render my furniture useless and not decorate, adding the fact that architects need 2 lots for a structure factory and anothr lot for an equipment factory, if you had 2 medium houses or even 2 small houses you would be left with 3 lots, which is basically 2 harvesters and a power generator. Basically this sucks, it means we have to buy all of our minerals that are really expensive. then sell it to a market that isnt going to need anything else in the near future. What happens when everyone has BER13 harvesters, BER14 power generators and a home and a factory, even with the city rank cap some of those are not going to expand.

Us architects are an endangered species, if the devs dont act soon we will be extinct within months.

The Z-axis thing would be nice, especially considering there are medium houses that dont have stairs..like my medium Corellian home. I cant decorate for squat now.

I also agree with the data terminal thing....why make us use FACTORY CRATE components to make them if they arent functional? You force us to use 2 different identical components and it's all for show? gimme a break.

Devs:

1) Moving furniture up and down. Shouldn't be this tough.

2) 1 person per couch? Dumb

3) Can't lie on a bed? Again Dumb.

4) My furniture counts against storage slots, so now I can only decorate 4 of the 12 rooms in my PA. Lame.

5) My desk light won't turn on at nightfall but my street light does? Are you kidding me?

Please make a few changes.

While I strongly agree with your suggestions for improvements, I have to completely disagree with your topic. I routinely get paid 300-500k for decorating people's homes on Radiant. I've got well over a month in back-orders for interior decorating jobs. Obviously, some people value furniture, and I enjoy decorating!
