The issue I would like to see addressed is the number of houses in the game. There are seemingly 10s maybe even 100s of thousands of houses and factories used by players. They clutter the landscape, they make travel out of the main cities difficult, and they reduce the beauty of the planets and even reduce the Star Warsy feel of the game. I, for one, never saw a suburban sprawl in any of the movies!

Apartment Buildings

Let's change this. I propose HighRiseApartment Buildings! Architects should be able to build (at enormous investment in resources) an apartment building. These buildings could only be placedinside of player cities by an architect This building would have to be placed by the city planner (MAYOR), sort of like the medical centers and the theaters etc. The buildings could range anywhere from 10 units up to 100 units. The 100 unit models would be like sky scrapers, very wide and very tall.

First off i love your idea but in my opinion a few things would need to be changed... having a building with 100 units in it would be to crazy.....

The main problem with this idea is most citys have a hard time holding 100 people never mind having 100 people in one building....but on a smaller scale..this would work and work well.

SO i would say have say 4 different buildings, that wouldbe best

Small Building: -4 units(appartment) Item limit: (200 - there is your reason to move into a building apposed to a house)

Medium Building: -6 units---Item limit (200).

Large Building: -12 units---Item limit (200).

Large Luxury Sky Scraper -24 units item limit (500).

Rent

Once placed the architect could set the rent on the various size apartments with in the building. Each apartment could hold 100, 200, or 300 items based on its size. The rent would be paid to a terminal in each apartment. The Landlord (the architect) would recieve the rent and use it to pay the maintenance on the building. The architect would have the option to raise or lower the rent by a small amount each week. If players did not pay their rent the architect could evict them. Eviction would lock a player out of an apartment and leave all his stuff inside. If the landlord so chose he could keep the stuff.

This is a bad idea in total....because there is large room here for griefing players.....You get everyone to move in with cheap rent and up the rent a little each day untill people cant afford the rent....and they you keep all there items....NO GOOD..

Also if you have a building and you are colecting all the maint fees for the building you can make a ton of money of this system if done right...and the reason for maint on houses in the first place is to take money out of the game....not take it and give it to one person..and then have that person pay the building off.....

Example the small building costs $80 in maint a minute.....but your continued rent increases makes you $240 an hour

after a year you would have made $ 1,401,600 profit...and lets say you have 10 buildings...in different citys...you would have made over 14,016,000 in a year for setting up buildings....thats to much money in one persons hands

So instead we would still have the normal cost for maint..that is in the game now.

Small--Medium--Large--Apartments cost $25 per minute (plus tax)

Large Luxury Sky Scraper--Apartments cost $55 per minute (plus tax)

Reduced Lot Costs

The player benefit would be that a small apartment would cost 1 lot, a medium apartment would cost 2 lots and a large apartment would cost 3 lots. A player could have only 1 apartment at a time. Thus it reduces the lot cost for storing stuff in a building. Also, they could live literally right next door to their friends. Instead of spread out to where ever the terrain allows them to place their houses. After the advent of apartments, no player would be allowed to build another house without suffering a large penalty in the form of maintenance. Smaller structures could be placed for the sake of running shops, but only an artisan would be allowed to do this.

In my setup the lot cost would still be in the hands of the owners of the appartments

Small--Medium--Large--Apartments---2 lots of each appartment.

Large Luxury Sky Scraper---4 lots for each appartment

(Maximum items any player can hold is 1210) using 10, 1 lot factories at 100 units each, a bank, backpack and the 60 item invantory) (not counting equipped items).

With 2 appartments in the large Lux building and 1 other appartment in a smaller building (all 10 lots used)..you could hold 1410 items....increasing your overall cap by 200 items.

Extra Storage

Each player would also have the option of renting a portion of the storage of the apartment building. This could be done in the apartment itself and it would act like a bank safety deposit box. The architect when he built the apartment could put in upto some reasonable maximum of storage modules. Each module adds 100 items storage to anyone who rents it. A player could rent more than 1 storage module at a time, but he would lose 1 lot for each storage module. The architect could set the rent on storage boxes as well. If the architect failed to pay the maintenance on a building, and eventually caused the building to be destroyed, the items stored by the apartments and storage boxes would be transferred to a special storage facility where the players would pay a fixed rate set by the game. This would be accessible through their bank. This storage facility would cost them the same number of lots as they used for their apartment and storage. And might be considered a second way to store items.

Although its a nice idea this would be more code that is not needed if people have appartments with more room.

Load on Demand

The doors to the apartments would be shut, and a button would exist on the outside for opening them. No one could enter simply by walking up to the door. You would need to press the button to enter. This would solve the problem of having to load the ENTIRE contents of an apartment building as you approached it. Instead the contents of an apartment would only be loaded when a player successfully opened the door to it by pressing the button.

Good idea but take it one step further.....on the outside you only would load the outside of the building period...

When you enter the lobby of the building you see only an elevator that runs all the way up the building.when you clickthe elevator pad it lists the appartments you pick the appartment and it take you up to that appartment...off the elevator you see a door to your appartment...then you walk in....(if its not your appartment and its private the door will not open and you cant leave the elevator. Pick a new floor.

Also in the main hall of the building there would be a panel that you can look at that will list the names of the appartments just like the signs for houses do now...

Extra Facilities and Services

There would be elevators that took you up to any floor with 1 button press, and there might also be an auxilary stairway. There would be services provided within the building like banking, bazaar terminals, and possibly even vendor space. There would be a roof top for all to access, maybe something like a domed glass bubble to allow it to be decorated. (like an observation deck i like it)

(putting city services in a build makes the Mayor obsolete....and if people want vendors they can pup them in there house......or they can put there stuff in a tent or in the mall---that i hope they will make one day

The goal of all of this is to do the following:

  • Create a better starwarsy feel by adding large buildings to the player cities.

  • Come to better terms with the number of objects in the game by centralizing them and compartmentalizing them.

  • Reduce loading times for congested areas by only loading contents as needed.

  • Give players a way to store items without taking up space in the city with things like ugly storage factories and the clutter of (tomany)small houses.

  • Provide a new much needed job and potential source of income for the architect. (well in this case the only money made will be from selling the buildings at a good price). but also as theARC makes the money on the sale of the building the Mayor will charge for the apartments (A ONE TIME FEE TO MOVE INTO THE APPARTMENT).

And when units are empty they will belong to the city...so know one is holding the lots...

To move into an apartment the player would walk into the building and click on the apartment listing terminal...if all apartments are taken then the menu will say all appartments are full...

If they are not full then they click on the appartment they want then (in the list or radial menu) a pop up comes up asking if they are willing to pay the ONETIME FEE to move into the building. If yes then they pay the fee and own the appartment in the building and the lots are taken from the player..

Other notes: The building will not add any costs to the city..because the building is not making the Mayor any extra money asthe ONE TIME FEE is there for the mayor to offset the large cost of buying the building off the MASTER ARC..

What do you think? I realize this is a sizeable coding effort. But the results could be much more interesting in the long run than the progressive cluttering of our landscape with houses. Eventually one might even consider the possiblity of compartmentalized shopping malls. Sort of the shopping equivalent of the apartment building.

Feedback appreciated,

Thats my feed back

Also due to the cost of the buildings this would set appart the large citys from the small ones as many of the buildings would not be cheap to build or to buy..

What do you think?

I am a master ARC as well and i understand that some times is hard to make a buck because onec everyone has a house there is no need to build more houses right?....I dont make money like i used to like in the housesing boom....But iam stillselling houses off my vendor every day...or every second day......because people lose houses and new people want houses...or to upgrade...

Buildings would just be another upgrade...as some wont want to pay the cost of an appartment people will still by houses..and those who rather have one appartment with 500 unit capasity over 5 factories....will like the idea of paying a little more for there Lux appartment...

i think it would be a good idea

"Which did you like better? 'Jedi' or "The Empire Strikes Back?"
"Jedi"
"Blasphemy!"
"'Empire' had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, find out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All 'Jedi' had was a bunch of Muppets." -Thanks go out to BrainMandinga for the AWSOME sig!

I'd be interested in seeing new buildings of any kind... a high rise (4 story building) of some sort, apartments... anything for a little more variety in player towns, and for the consumers.

i was thinking along similar lines when looking up at the skyscrapers of coronet, and this proposal is great. It would diversify the player cities a lot (some with no apartment blocks and some with many) and make them slightly more organised as only the mayor decides where the apartments go, reducing the suburban sprawl.

Well thats the idea..a little more space for per person..and also help to get rid of everyone having one main house...and then 3 or more storage factories or houses...

I have a main house...4 storage houses and a guild hall...And City Hall and Clone center full of stuff (2 accounts)...but if i had both of my 2 chars in a building each with 500 items per apartment X 2 each...thats 2000 items....plus 200 in the bank..I would not need to have 5 different houses and a guild and city hall to hold all my stuff!!!
