The architect profession has changed very little since launch. I mastered Architect soon after launch, may not have been the first one but definitely in the first group. I have since created an alternate character who has picked up the profession and the only changes are lights, city structures, and the fact the experimentation does have some use now. The one thing that really sticks out is the problems and issues with this profession are the same as the were at launch.

House/lot item limits
Furniture is not useful and is a waste of innovatory space.

With the new vendor changes the item storage issue will hopefully be a larger concern to all. Vendors now see containers as one item no matter how many items are in them. If Architects had furniture containers that houses would see as one item regardless of the items in them, this would make furniture useful and help with the storage issues.

There are furniture items that are currently in game that should have storage abilities Chest, bookcases, and armoire for example. Each item would have a set limit on the number of items they can hold. Also I would suggest item specific furniture items as well as the generic storage items.

Armoires able to store clothing.
Tanks of some sort for storage of liquid resources.
Resource chest (lack of a better name) for resources.
Refrigerator units for food and med. supplies.
Weapons case for weapons obviously.
Chest, wall locker, footlocker able to hold any type of items.

These items would help people set up the houses to look good as well as provide the space that we need.

Vendors don't count containers, but they do count the items in them. If the containers are empty then they count as 1 by themselves. Also, vendor limits were capped (where they weren't before) to 4000 items for master merchant.

I've been an architect since beta, and I agree that there's been very little change to our profession overall, and would also like to see furniture be of some use... perhaps if armoires and chests were defined as backpacks instead of furniture, and set to unequipable, that would help... nice little short cut for the devs to take to make it happen... that'd be really nice because then you could rename them like backpacks too, and use them to store stuff in a more appealing container that serves a dual purpose.

Hopefully we'll get some of our issues addressed in the near future (probably after JTL for sure), and hopefully useful furnishings are on that list of issues.

Only problem is that weve been wanting furniture to act as containers for a long time and nothing has ever happened. Ive been an architect off and on since day three of the game so I definetly remember this being asked for when furniture was first being made.
