Thread: A few suggestions that I think will make the player housing more viable and exciting.
I accidentally posted this in the General Discussion section as well, oops. Well, now that I've found a forum made for this sort of post, I'll paste it here as well.
I'm not asking for priority over other classes- there are plenty of other features that I think should be implemented before these (namely cities and vehicles), but I feel as if the architect class is very limited init's housing options and furniture creation abilities.
We can create 2 floorplans for a few housing types, but this doesn't allow for characters to always turn their building into what they want. In order to find someone who is using their house as a store, I have to run by 20 identical houses in my PA's city and read the signs, which, hopefully, accurately describe what the person is selling if they have a merchant at all. If I wanted to find a cantina in a player city, which certainly wouldn't look anything like a cantina, I would have to run by possibly hundreds of identical buildings in order to locate it.
Architects need to be able to create at least two new unique housing types- Shops and Cantinas. Cantinas should be single storied, uniquely shaped, and one large room with a bar. Players could decorate them with chairs, create vendors with spices and chef created food items behind the bar, and make it look like an actual cantina. Cantinas should not be declared residencies andrequirea tier III or IV business skilltoown, and thusshould have a reduced lot cost of 1 and an increased upkeep cost.
Shops should be small, have a large decorative andeasy to identifysign out front that can be changed to displaydifferent images- droids, guns, armor, houses, food, and moredepending on what the shopkeep wanted to advertise he sold. Shops should be relatively small and have options togrant administrativerights to place merchants behind specific counters.Shops should not be declared residencies and should require novice merchant to own, and probably should suffer the increased upkeep cost due to the ability to better attract customers, so a lot requirement of 1 would be appropriate.
Furniture creation is extremely limited. I cannot change the colors of the furniture I make, so invariably, every house has the same pool offurniture in it or none at all. Everyone who uses furniture will have the same bland appearance to their house. Therewas no effort put into makinghome decoration an entertaining and long lasting aspect of the game- and furniture sales are ironically where I should be making most of my revenue after the house market is flooded and players want to turn their building into something personal.
Wall colors, house colors, floor paneling, layout- these all need to be options when I create a house, and I should recieve more options as my construction skill goes up. If not uponhouse creation, they need to be something I can later changejust an image designer can give new and unique hair styles and colors not available at character creation.
When player cities do come, I personally don't want to go to a city where all of the buildings look exactly the same and finding a place to buy a gun takes walking into every house that's public. I want to be able to look around and recognise a place I've been before without having to set a waypoint or reading every sign I see, and I want to feel as if my own home really is a uniquely decorated place, considering it takes me 2 lots, the space I could build two heavy mineral installations with, thus theoutput of7 personal harvesters, to own.
This comes under the category of content, which is something we'll be seeing more of over the life of the game. Hopefully more building types will be introduced.
There are actually a few more options when you consider, size of house, and that generic houses work on planets Tatooine, Corellia and Naboo as well as the houses made for those specific planets.
Nyca
Nyca, I think you misunderstand- anyone who can afford a large house will purchase a large house, and generic houses look like big pillboxes.
In a city of 100 of these things, I think you're going to have a hard time finding any specifichouse, or successfully theming one like a hospital or cantina.
You have to at least admit that furniture requires personality through color changes.
Very good point Forz:
I haven't seen a player city or fathomed the idea of identical houses everywhere..
Just another reason why we are paying Sony to take our money. I like the idea of new content, and that's fine in a form of a patch or EVEN an "expansion". But not like "The Sims" ok...we should have 50 different houses to build RIGHT NOW...add space later, add planets, and STARSHIPS! Sure! But for the love of God, 2-5 types of houses per size? eh? I'm paying for Beta?
PA Halls take 9 lots, what a joke.
We found the nicest guy in our guild to be the leader, now he has 1 lot left.
I'd love to see a reduction in that lot cost, because it's essentially telling us that it's impossible to be both an artisan and the leader of a player association at the same time.
