Has anyone tried to mass produce houses and harvesters? If you have, do these come out in factory crates, or just loads of single deeds?
I would like to make a modest supply of heavies so I dont run out so often, but would rather not have to deal a crap load of deeds.

They do not crate.
However, mass producing them in a factory is the ONLY way I make heavies. I make sure that I have the resources for a big run of generator turbines, SSSMs, and OMUs (for example). I make the schem for 1000 of those components each. I put in enough resources to run 20-40 OMUs (since they don't crate) and 100-200 of the other components.
Then I make a schem for a heavy harvester with BER13 and good hopper size.
Then whenever I have enough walls on hand to make 5-10 of that harvester, I just pop the schem into the factory and turn it on.
That way you only take the experimentation risk to hit BER13 once (per type), and you have things set aside such that you can crank them out of the factory on short notice at about 5 minutes each.
I don't do medium or large houses in the factory since there isn't enough demand for them (in my business) and there is no quality goal. I have run batches of small houses in the factory when someone wanted to start a city.

Cant stand factories with large quantities of stuff lol i always uber lag everywhere and enmd up with about 100 singles in my inventory!
IMO hand crafting is easier but riskier

I make all my harvesters in factories, but i only ever deal with amounts of 5 or 10 ata a time because of the storage issue

Exactly.
I've got better things to do in the game than be stuck behind my crafting tools for the entire play session.
If I need a couple of things really quick, that's no problem but if its time to restock my vendors I need to fire up the factories.

Aren't we glad that the architect profession allows us to build by hand AND in a factory, depending on our business model and what seems the most fun to us individually. (Unlike shipwright
)
