Thread: Handling Large Orders

Okay, a good friend of mine just through this order at me. This is the largest single order I've ever done (since I only picked up archi to build my own harvs for my other businesses). The order is as follows:

10 Heavy Mineral Mining Harvs

10 Deep Crust Chem Harvs

2 Heavy Natural Gas Harvs

2 Fusion Reactors

Now, I did some number crunching and the amount of resources (namely for the struct mods for the wall mods) and the number of factory made componentsseem to be the only stumbling blocks. I'm up to the challenge and my friend intends to pay me very well to fill the order. So I'm asking the community to help me come up with a good strategy to fill this order.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Your sig says your 0441 architect, is that current?

Have you made many BER13 heavies? I found with 044x skills that hitting BER13 took several tries.

Id' setupmultiple factories if you have the lots and run them in parallel. You're going to need around 130 walls for that order. I'd get started first running a full batch or two of structure modules so you can then turn them into walls. Would also be a good idea to run of a large run of small structure storage modules and generator turbines then as well if you don't have crates made.

I'd strongly recommend making factory schematics for at least the mineral and chemicals. If you do them by hand, depending on your luck you could come up with 1/4 or more of them less than BER13. And with a manufacturing schematic you only need to get one right and then you can make as many perfect ones as you want and have material for.

142 walls, 1420 struct modsto be exact (incl. 1 each to build the schem). LOL Anyway, thanks for the advice. The sig is current in that I only have Archi0441 and my client knows that. So uber BER isn't exactly what he's lookin for. Unfortunately, I have so many bloody harvesters working on gathering the resource, I can't run many simultaneous factory runs at once at this time (eventually I will though). As it sits right now, I'm currently running a batch of struct mods (i've got 500 so far) and I'm just waiting for the resource to come outta the ground to the other half. I am also considering speaking to another archi to maybe contract out the other factory comps (such as the gen turbs and small struct store mods) to speed up the process and also keep my existing harvs running. Either that, try to find a good resource dealer that I can buy the resources from instead of pulling em myself...Decisions, decisions...

I strongly recommend that you grind up the furniture tree temporarilyto save yourself some grief. You can use the walls to help you do it, if you make them by hand. If necessary, drop Master Artisan and part of one of its lines to get the SP. The assembly points will give you a bit of a head start on the experimentation levels you need to achieve, especially on your mining units. It usually takes a full 8 experimentation points to get mining units and final assemblies to the necessary levels.

You say that it's a good friend of yours. Then you say that max BER isn't an issue. Before I busted my neck and built a whole set of mixed harvesters (BER11, BER12, and BER13) I would double-check with the friend to make sure they were not expecting top-rated harvesters. You'd hate to work hard and lose the friend.

If you are really so strapped for current resources that you are having to sweat out getting 500 structure modules (and we've all been through that period on the way up), then I wonder if you are ready for this size order. Does the friend care when they get the harvesters?

I assume that *you* have 10+ BER 13 harvesters out on the stuff you need? Buy the lube oil and reactive gas - you don't need the pain of spreading your harvesters around.

Good luck.

It also might be a good idea to contact other players to see if you can drop a factory or two in one of thier lots. I sometimes do this to temporarily boost my output capability.

Considering the sheer quantity of resources you need, you might want to become good freinds with the vendor search. You should be able to find ore and iron for 2 cpu. Though I generally avoid this as it eats into my profit margins, if the order is large enough it may be a reasonable thing to do. It all depends on how much you charge for the order and how soon your client wants the items. either way, good luck!

my largest order was 60 BER 13 harvesters and boy was it a pain. I ran out of walls and minning units and considering they dont go into crates it took a while. Thne the guy backed out on the 6 million credit order. Well all it did was load my vendor and enabled me to jump into a new location where i doubled my business. I always make 500 walls at a time its just saves time. After all of the structure modules are made in my 5 factories which makes 5000 strucuter moduels I then take one factory to make the walls and 1 to make mining units and 1 make storage moduels. That about covers the minerals. I take another to make the turbos for hte chem harvesters. If you can find 400k ofall the resources that make generator turbines with the exception of steel and ore andmake a full run of a 1000 I know its a task but you wont regret it. Those will last you a month. After all of the subs are done I have 2 factories making harvs and they take between 3-5 minutes a piece so in the morning i have 40 or so harvs of each kind. In the mean time I start another run of structure modules and keep them going. Some people may not agrre but the only way to make many harvesters is to do lot trades. That way you canahrvest all of you own resources and you get a bigger margin of profit. It took me a moth to get established 1 customer gave me an oreder of 20 harvs. I made it by hand and it almost killed me. That custoemr is one of my most loyal customers now and only comes to me for items. He also send me business. Architech can be very tediousand consums a large quantity or resources but it is well worth it. The cash flows seems endless. I made enough money to become a 12 pt Chef also. Boy that was a mistake at first but now its a fruitfull ,pardon the pun, buisness. It enalbed me to buy some of the best resources our server had seenand it hit the pocket book but it allcame right back after i started selling food and harvesters. I only do house and other city structures by request so I can concentrate on harvesters. Good luck out there

200k or ore 50k steel or other metal = 1000 structure modules + schematic.

200k metal 100k ore + 1000 structure moduels = 100 walls <------- I think this is right

Good thing about walls is they dont require identical structure modules just similar ones. I use that wall schem till it makes a 1000 then start a new one really works well for me hope it helps you out.
