Since the Starships will be crafted, I would assume that the new profession would stem from the Artisan Skill Tree.....hence the post on this forum.

So, what do you think.....? I'm looking for valid opinions.

Will there be an entire new skill tree for a starship crafting profession?

What resources do you think will be needed to craft a starship?

Will, perhaps, the starship profession rely on components crafted by droid engineers (computers for the starships), armorsmiths (shielding for the starships) and weaponsmiths (weapons for the starships)?

And, finally....what is your profession now and will you conisder dropping that profession to become a starship engineer?

I picked up the architect prof in anticipation of us getting to build starships. So I'm hoping we won't have to change all that much.
I can't imagine what resources they will require but I've neen stockpiling hundreds of thousands units of different metals and ores.

I do remember reading something about there being a new starship captain profession but nothing was said about the building of the ships. If it does require a change in profession I would give up architect with no regrets.

If you flip back a few pages there are a couple old threads where we discussed this a bit.

They've said we'll get four new professions (presumably space-related) with the expansion. With ship customization as involved as they're making it sound, I'm sure we're looking at a whole new profession, building off of the Engineer branch of Artisan.

I could easily see the Ship Builder needing components from the Droid Engineer. Not as sure about Armor- or Weaponsmith built components...though a weaponsmith specializing in heavy ion weapons would be kind of cool.

Ships are gonna need a lot of metal/minerals, chemicals and gas...probably withquite a few sub-combines. I could see a ship easily rivaling some of our larger structures in resource costs and complexity. Especially the larger transports. (How many units of steel go into a Corellian Transport??)

One little hope I have is that we can plug our personal droids into our ships. Having an X-Wing with my R2 riding shotgun would be great.

As to dropping my profession for Starship Builder? Probably not...as much as I like the idea of building my own ship...people will be flocking to that profession. Better to stay where I am and see the competition thin a bit.

I am really curious to know what the other three professions may be...whether they'll split piloting(transport) and piloting(fighter).

No, don't believe they've said that.

They have said that there are 4 new professsions coming with the expansion. Is almost a given I think that one of those is going to be the Shipbuilder profession and will build from Engineering 4 like other crafters.

It will be its own profession so it will not have to rely on other profs for parts. Excpet maybe the player might need a R# droid for X and Y Wings. I think it will require a huge amount of resorces thouhg (would only make sence)

Um. Architect takes MAYBE an hour to master now if you have ore and gemstone. Try and do the survey tree in artisan in under an hour =)
