Thread: Starship Profession???
I can't imagine what resources they will require but I've neen stockpiling hundreds of thousands units of different metals and ores.
I do remember reading something about there being a new starship captain profession but nothing was said about the building of the ships. If it does require a change in profession I would give up architect with no regrets.
If you flip back a few pages there are a couple old threads where we discussed this a bit.
They've said we'll get four new professions (presumably space-related) with the expansion. With ship customization as involved as they're making it sound, I'm sure we're looking at a whole new profession, building off of the Engineer branch of Artisan.
I could easily see the Ship Builder needing components from the Droid Engineer. Not as sure about Armor- or Weaponsmith built components...though a weaponsmith specializing in heavy ion weapons would be kind of cool.
Ships are gonna need a lot of metal/minerals, chemicals and gas...probably withquite a few sub-combines. I could see a ship easily rivaling some of our larger structures in resource costs and complexity. Especially the larger transports. (How many units of steel go into a Corellian Transport??)
One little hope I have is that we can plug our personal droids into our ships. Having an X-Wing with my R2 riding shotgun would be great.
As to dropping my profession for Starship Builder? Probably not...as much as I like the idea of building my own ship...people will be flocking to that profession. Better to stay where I am and see the competition thin a bit.
