Thread: Best way to expiriment
I personally just throw all the points into the extraction rate in one big shot and then put in a couple more points to max it out. I can't say this way is any better than any other way, but just what I do myself. Seems to work well enough for me though.
I do two points at a time until I get into the 80% range...then I change to one point at a time. There have been a few instances where even if I crit fail on an experimentation attempt the hit is small enough that I can still get a good result with the subsequent attempts. This works especially well on medium mineral harvesters for some reason.
I just know that as a master architect I really shouldn't be crit failing on things as often as I do...just doesn't seem right. ![]()
Thanks for the input guys, I know you you feel.
I am a master architect, wearing apron, using 15.0 tool and 42.7 station. I'm also using metal of 950+ in all 3 stats that matter, and ore the same. Ore mining unit is in 90's with BER 6 and I failed 4 times to get BER 13.
I'm never doing full shoots of expiriment points again. Something is wacked.
Heh, I'm glad someone asked this question, cos I was sitting there the other night pondering the same thing... I have not quite mastered arch, and someone asked me to make 3 moisture vaps for them, BER 10 if possible... I had the resources on hand to do it, as long as experimentation went well... Went fine on the fluidic drilling pumps (made a schem of that since I had the resources) then managed to get 2 x 10's and a 9 on the final asemblys... Next time I am crafting, I'll try the 5-2-2 approach and see how it goes ![]()
As a side note, where can you get a crafting apron from? Who makes them (class wise, tailor?), and are they pretty rare and costly? What's a not-getting-too-ripped-off price?

Either I'm extremely lucky and/or you're extremely unlucky or as you put it "something is wacked".
Double check to make sure your structure assembly and structure skill are at 100. I've heard of one case where someone had goofed up skill points due to a bug.

That sounds about as I'd expect. You're not a master and you don't get 100% perfect results. Yes.
1 in 3 less than max result is not abnormal.

I will assume that as you are familiar with the stats and effects of omu % as well as its BER that you also know the 'lube oil trick' if chems are used in the final combine so I won't pursue that. The only other thing I can think of is going back on a thread from a few weeks ago. The discussion was exactly the same, 'how do you use your experimentation points'. In that thread I raised an old theory I had had heard that when you experimented, if you used say 3 points then only the result of the last point was displayed (great/amazing/poor etc.), but that ALL 3 points had their own success rate and were counted seperately. So, if you had great+poor+great then great was dispayed, but a 'poor' was included and counted, thereby reducing the success. This was firmly rebutted in that thread, and I have accepted that. But now I wonder yet again...
...it maybe worth digging up that thread again and checking (cos I cannot remember now) if there was any conclusive testing done on this, if not then this could potentially be your problem.
5 points, then 2 and then 2. usually does it.
If you have 12 points, though, I recommend doing 6, then 3.
Mileage may vary.

Answer to sidenote:
Tailors make the arpon, using Heavy Duty Leathers (2 identical) so the componants are semi-rare. You would never see a run of more than 2-3 since getting more than 6 identical HD Leathers is extreemly rare.
Pricing will vary from server to server, but on Sunrunner the avarage price is around 450-500K for a crafting apron.

Its just a pity that Wookiees can't wear it... oh well, its not like we're seriously hamstrung. I usually only need 7 points to max out a harvester. Any more go towards mitigating crit fails and enhancing storage.

I made a comment about this same thing on the Armorsmith forum and was told that base complexity is used to determine factory production time, and not complexity of the final experimented schematic.
Anyone confirm or deny? I guess it would be a pretty easy test to run myself...
I can definitely confirm, I have been doing factory runs for months, there is no difference in the time it takes for a non-experimented (therefore base complexity) item than for a fully experimented (modified complexity) item. It is simple to test, next time you make walls, experiment them as far as you can, they will still take 120 sec per.
