Thread: Semi-Retiring architect

Ok, I haven't frequented these boards as much as I probably should have, but I've been a practicing architect since October-ish. On my server, I was 1 of only 2 architects that succeeded in making BER 14's on holy Tuesday.

I've mastered the profession with 2 different accounts, and my 3rd account did a heck of a lot of it. I've always liked architect, for the simplicity in how it is to make items, and because those items are so very tangible to me (I enjoy walking past gardens and houses I built). Also, I like to think that I'm a newbie helper kinda gal, and being an architect, provides me the opportunity to help a lot of newbies.

At any rate, over my career, I made a few credits and accordingly have been able to purchase some "luxury" items. I've been able to start my own player city, and help out my gulidmates in very tangible ways.

But now, in what I perceive is the twilight of my career, I'm finding that being a practicing architect isn't what it used to be. In fact, the market potential on my server is very, very low. Most experienced players have a buddy architect they deal with. Someone that'll "hook them up". I'm cool with that. Heck, I am that for many ppl. I think it's great.

But that does lead to my decision to go into semi-retirement. Without decay on a significant item, there is very little market for architect wares.Vendor trafficused to move along nicely, at a pace I liked...every once in a while too busy, every once in a while a bit slow, but overall, it moved along just right. Then recently, it seemed to just stop. Almost overnight I stopped selling harvs, houses, and furniture. So, having millions of resources stock-piled, I decided now was the time to semi-retire. I'll continue helping my fellow citizen and gulidmate, but the effort to manage a vendor has exceeded the benefits.

Thus, this is my state of the profession: It's not dead. It's just shrinking noticably.

It's shrinking due to spring-time being in the air right now. I expected it.

I also expect an incredible upturn in the economy as soon as school lets out. Better start building up stock now.

There will be a whole influx of new players. I don't think I'm being optimistic, just realistic.

Wait till the space expansion comes out, alot of architects are talking about going ship builder as a profession. Once all the hype and novelty wears off and people come back down to the planets there will be a shortage of architects, so i figure sales should be quite good at that time. Just a thought.

Manipulative, Yes I think the economies are mostly in a down trend now. Makes sense to find something better to do for a bit if you aren't having enough fun as architect. Don't be a stranger around here though.

For me the crash was good, I was able to purchase some very low price ore, and use it to make a high profit. Yay for the stupid people who couldnt wait until the ore was worth something again. As for the 'shrinking' profession, I would agree. I have been an architect for my whole SWG life (Since a week or two before christmas) and I plan to change from crafting to combat when they change the jedi system. I need to see whether I prefer it or not.

I am a pretty new Architect on the Farstar server (europe) and since I have only been in business for 4 weeks I don't really know about the old days. I am making a good living, I sell for 400k on slow days and up to2 million on good days. This might be considered "slow" and not worth keeping business but I am steadily building up my funds and I enjoy it.

I know the economy is not comparable between servers, but I am wondering if I am lucky or if you "older" architects don't think 500k-1000k per day is worth keeping architect for?

How much did you sell for back in the days? Or when Holo grinding really took off?

I'd been wondering just how much the economy crash has affected other Architects?. Andindeed other proffs¹. The pinch in Vendor sales has been not just noticeable, but remarkable. I used to have a very brisk trade via my vendor selling at least 5 or 6 structures a day. I have done nothing different and no new competing Vendors local to me are affecting buisness. I check their vendors regularly too. It seems none of us are selling more than perhaps one structure every few days?

Is this global for architects... Has the stupid lack of decay led to the universe and market actually being full ? This kind of panic downtrend in sales leads to stupid things like AFK spam-advertising and I WILL NOT sink that lowto ruin things yet more for other players².

There's a lot of ideas for new buildings floating around here. Many of them seem great ideas. Are they just speculation or have we been promised new Architect buildings in the near future?Have we been told even if that will be in the next mnoth or two ? I ask because I have also enjoyed being an Arch (MUCH more than other proffesions)but have recently started considering "semi-retirement" too³.

Even should we get a new building, they won't get rid of the existingstructures (and whoever lets their structures decay to destruction?). The 7-dayall-tarrain harvester is a great idea, but who wants to makeonly that harvester forever? (it'll be the only renewable income structure) To cut a long reply short. The Architect Profession is effectively dead now.

  • ¹(apart from Droid Engineers of course!)

  • ² One of my ideas for a new structure would be a SHOOTING GALLERY for AFK spammers.. ! Hehaay!

  • ³When I say "semi retire" I mean possibly leaving the game.. Arch was the thing I enjoyed most

I think the economies on the European galaxies are significantly different than on the US galaxies, due to the fact that those galaxies are significantly younger, they seem to be still growing, and they are highly populated.

My galaxy seems to have a shrinking population. I can't confirm that, but I think it's the case. A shrinking population of veteran players (latest SOE chat about how most players are in the eldar game, for confirmation of that) equates to far less demand for a non-decaying product.

As to your specific example of credits per day. I don't believe I ever sustained a 1M/day business. Sure, there were days were I had 1M in sales, but they were the exception rather than the rule. 50k-100k, that was more the rule. And that was cool. I'd say I was probably bringing in over 1M/wk. It was never this major killing, but the reward always felt like it justified the means (surveying, managing harvestors, vendors, factories, critical fails!). My personal account reached over 20M and life was good.

But now, with sales closer to or lower than 100k/wk, the cost of doing business has outweighed the benefits, for me.

Since I have 3 accts, last night, for the first time ever, I decided to try and see how much I could make, if I just ran missions off our mission terminal from my player city on Tattooine. The highest paying mission you can get on Tat is a 10k mtn squill mission. My master sharpshooter can do 2 of those missions in well under 5 mins.I think I made 175k in an hour, and then decided that I had learend what I wanted to learn.I did this with only a music buff and some brandy, no doctor buff. I played with armor off/on, and on seemed to work better, although I did usually have to heal myself once a mission (once...egads!). Basically, I proved to myself that my master combat toon can earn credits faster and easier than my master crafting toon can.

I also have multiple accounts (3 to be precise) and having my architect draw in cash while I play my combat character I can make a lot of cash at the same time.

I was obsessed with cash before since I never had enough and always felt like I could spend it all in an afternoon. And itwasn't something I liked feeling. So thatwaswhen I started my architect (I alsohoped it would be fun and it was)and business was really slow the first weeks but is much better now as stated above. I now have more cash than I need (15mil+) and don't feel like cash is a problem any more. Sure, I could buy two Kryat pearls and have 0 again, so I nowhere "rich" compared to most rich people and when I saw the stats on the front page today about the economy with people on Bria server with BILLIONS I don't feel rich at all anymore... but then again who cares as long as I have fun, right?
