Thread: instead of everyone undercutting everyone
since this is a player driven economy... i say we fix prices. no one undercut anyone. once people realise that no one is selling for more or less they'll start buying it for what we ask.
it's rediculious when we as architects map out how to price things, then someone goes around selling for really cheap.
reason i say this is someoen wanted a hosue for their second acount. i told them 12k, as 12k is 3.5cr per resouce. they told me "are you #!$%#!@ serious!!?? i bought my first one for 2k"
now if peopel are going to sell tehm for that low, it ruins it for EVERYONE.
for those of you worried about not making money? wel lthink about it. you sell 6 houses at 2k.... or 1 hosue at 12k.
which is the better deal? you'll be 6 times richer if you settle with what others have already done the math for. i have seen both 3.5cr per resource and 5 cr per resourec lists. i suggest all architects take a look at them and decide to be hard headed for a few deals until people start paying us what we deserve. i'm sick and tired of walking into a weapons shop and seeing thm have 100 weapons listed and each one is priced higher than i can price a building and a weapon takes a a tenth of the resources and time a building does.
Granted, at 2k that person would be taking a heavy loss(even if they harvested their own ore), but I think your customer was just in the right place at the right time. The person they bought the house from either didn't know what they were doing, or was in a desperate emergency, and neededed the quick cash for a house they already built, so they could pay for something.
I sell small houses at 14k, and can hardly keep em in stock. Well, I don't make that many of em, as I tend to spend most of my resources on upgrading my harvesters.
But, if you are in a dialoge with your customer, and they complain about your price, just encourage them to go out and get that better deal. More often than not, they won't be able to find it, or there will be a 2-week waiting list. Also, be sure to explain that you are only asking 3-3.5 credits per resource, and that this item won't decay when maintenance is payed. Unlike a weapon they might buy for 50-100 credits per resource.
Yet the fact of the matter is, people will always undercut. It's human nature. Best you can do is just ignore em. Also, if you roleplay with your customers a bit... Say things like: "The bricks of this house were all hand crafted with REAL Talusian Ore, making for a very strong house", it really draws em in. It might not make the sale, but it does make them remember you, and they will usually come back.

my wife got 2 small naboo houses for 3k each.I think it was just new novices trying to unload quick.
Your best bet is to make cash on the medium and up and not worry about the small houses as you will always be undercut by the newbie who doesnt know any better.
And pray that they make houses decay over time.
It seems like the 3cr/unit has been adopted as the basis for most resources, with common lower quality resources selling for 2/u and higher quality, rarer resources selling for 4/u, 5/u or even 10/u [for that high quality linked aluminum et al].
The housing market seems to follow that pattern, depending on the number of architects on that server. It's not uncommon to sell small houses for 8-10k, though you may not get a buyer right off. It seems that a 50-60k medium house can find a buyer with about the same frequency. However, negotiating the prices down by offering to take resources as part of the sale seems to work to entice buyers, especially in the smaller house cases. I have sold a medium for 30k + 10k steel, but I've sold a bunch of small houses for different mixes of resources and cash.
Sometimes people aren't cash rich and don't want to spend the time selling their resources off, so accepting mixed trades makes everyone happy. I think most of my architect's cash comes from resource [not housing] sales anyhow. Dropping a pack of mineral harvesters on some high quality metal site will always bring in a bunch of cash.
Are these posts ever gonna end?
I mean come on now people, you can only complain so much before it just forces people to get sick of your complaining and just undercut your business more often and also stops people from reading the forums cause there sick of 10 posts on one page all complaints from architects.
Me personally i can care less what everone else sells. All i know is ive kept the same prices on all my structuressince i started as architect. And guess what yeah i get acouple people yell at me saying i charge to high, but i always find someone to sell to. I have never held on to a medium house deed for longer than a day while someone can be right next to me undercutting prices. Reason being, yeah they charge 30k less than i do but i also dont announce im selling till i have the deed in my hand. And people will pay that 30k more just to get the deed right then and there. I also dont have my title set as architect for this exact reason. Im the type of person i wait till i have a product before i sell it.
Point of all this being, its a game. Have fun. If you cant take architects out there undercutting you go into a different line of work. Yeah i dont like people who undercutt me, but thats business, thats part of life. This is the last post about this subject i think ill ever post. And i just hope i never see another thread about this, even though i know i will lol.
I have to say I don't agree with price fixing. That said, I do think 3.5 credits p/u is reasonable, and that is what I sell at. When I get a tell asking how much I sell something for, I give them the price and let them know that it's 3.5 credits p/u. Since most people sell resources on the market for 5 cr p/u, they understand that 3.5 cr p/u isa good deal. If they aren't happy with the price, I wish them a nice day ![]()
I'malways backordered by 2 days, and I've never advertised. Word of mouth works wonders.

I as the consumer try to get the best deal for the things i need--when you shop for a car
you look for the best car for the least amount of money/interest--you dont suddenly feel sorry
for the big car company and pay them the price they want--we're all trying to get by here and
dont sell if the price is too low--that is the beauty of free market--only communism does this fixed price
stuff
I tend to sell at what I want and if they don't like so be it. Smalls min 12k possibly 20k depending!!! Factories 50k min. I figure most of the ass have moved to wep makers now.
To be honest, there IS alot less Novice Architects now.
