Thread: how did u guys start back when u were novices???
ok i just achieved novice architect and am surprised by the large amounts of ore that i would be needing
now im not the richest guy in the block...i slowly move my way up the weaponsmith treeand make some money out of that but i cant make the best weapons yet
my only idea is to slowly start mining it with my personal miners and i will slowly but surely build my way up...i could also buy some but i dont wanna shell out those ridiculous costs
is this the right way or are there any other suggestions??
Mine your own. It's the only way to do it unless you are in a PA and have people supplying you. I would recommend running up the Installation branch until you get mediums harvestors. Then use these to mine and double your supply. All the level III and IV harvestors require factory components so you may want to build up your other branches first. That depends on what you want to do.
To get to Installation II I built components I would need. Structure modules, Small storage, etc. Once you can build generators they are worth 3k XP each and are used in all the mediums and the mechanisms. So you will need a good supply of those too. That should get you to Installation II or close to it. Of course you'll need lots of ore, copper, steel, and some aluminum.
Heh, I'm back when I became a novice right now. Right in your position. I worked up some loot doing artisan missions and what not, enough to fund some harvesters for awhile. Once I got some ore harvesters and generators up I sold a couple batches of ore, cause you can get 3k for 500. I wanted to have some starting capital. I then built myself a house, some friends a house and setup a vendor in my house. I've been an architect for less then a week and i've been selling small houses almost as fast as I can make them.
You will find that simply runing around with "novice architect" floating above you head is about as good advertising as you'll get. I've made several sales (and even more offers that i could complete because of my low level) just by running into town and around where I live.
1) I took scout and marksman.
2) I macroed my butt off and mined as much copper and inert as I could. Started with powerups, crafting toolsand CDEF weapons. ***GIVE THE POWERUPS AWAY YOU GET EXP WHEN PEOPLE USE THEM*** (and at first they kinda suck lol) Go up the tree as: Eng 1, 2, Tailor 1 (for fiberplast panels), Eng 3,4, Novice Arch making Bone Armor BPs. I think I picked up Tailor 2 as well for the extra 10 experimentation.
3) Sold Bone Armor BPs, if you experiment on them and put stats in window, they sell handsomely. Started making deeds as soon as I got Eng 1 and put up wind and a couple minerals on metal and ore. Soon as you ding Eng 3 you should put up a chem and a gas, cuz youre gonna need both.
3a) Master Artisian in your spare time. With bone bps its simple to do. Once master artisian, you can make GREAT powerups and I sell those at 250-300 per. Once you build a factory it's 2500 a crate of 10. And they ALWAYS sell out.
4) Novice Arch - Install1, Install 2 (I only needed 3 storage modules before I got build 1) Build 1, 2, then all furnitures 1-4. Came back did houses 3 and 4 then 3&4 install and all the construction line (why did you wait till master for heavies?? because I wanted full exp for everything I did). Most of what I built was Med harvesters/Solar, they sell fastest and I got more cr/resource because theyre usefull, unlike houses. I made houses here and there, but only to order. Can put 10 mediums on a vendor, go advertise, and theyre all gone next day.
5) I sell stuff when I wanna sell stuff, period. Don't let people bug you about prices, quote them fair and stick to your guns, there's always someone who needs it and appreciates the effort... most likely another artisian.
6) Hoard good resources. Until I was a master Arch I couldnt do this, and I should have taken the time. God how Id love some Nogoe copper right about now for a spiffy crafting station.....
Made Master Architect in under3 weeks.
*Note: I did not build myself a house until I had medium harvesters working. This paid off well as I had 2 winds and 8 personals cranking out juice.
The most important thing I think I did was establish a relationship with a scout/miner. He sold me all my resources (and I kept him dry) for 3 and 2.5 cr/unit. I sold everything I made at, near or over 4cr/resource. Never once did I lower prices. I made my supplier his mediums for 1.2xresources and he helped out if there was a serious crit, and when he got mediums up, he lowered my cost from 3 to 2.5.
Most important thing you can do as a budding artisian: Run DESTROY missions while checking your harvesters. Its an extra 2-2.5k per trip to pay maint with AND you work your battle skills up so you're not a complete wuss. Once you got specialist pistol then you can take the wiener artisian missions.

get your 6 - 8 Personal Harvesters...find a good ore concentrate(50%+)...put them all down...
put in about 2500 maint, 2500 power...sample the same resource if you want....do that...
Basicly, get Buildings I(trust me) then get Installations I...now if you want you can do Buildings II...but its quite a dramatic change in resources used between small and mediums...so I recomend getting Installations III or IV before you decide you want to truely make medium houses(like you were able to with smalls). and then go from there.
