Thread: Factory XP...

OK, This is probably a set of stupid questions, but here goes:

1. If you have a factory up and running, do you get any XP for the product it's generating?

2. Is it possible to have a factory create walls from SIMILAR components? or does it need crates of source components? (In other words, can I craft the wall components by hand and toss em in the factory, letting it complete the walls)

1. Yes, you get XP for factory runs, even if you're not online. However, the XP is much less than what you would get by hand. Last time I checked, it was only about 1/10th the XP. Factories are not meant for XP grinding.

2. Yes, anytime a schematic says "similar", you can hand-craft them. Only when a schematic asks for "identical items in a factory crate" are you required to make those items in a factory.

yep and similar only works if your hand crafting if your factory crafting each piece used need to have the smae serial number as the one on the schematic, even if the draft schematic calls for similar the factory schematic will just chuck it out as not being the one it needs.

Answers: Similar, Identical

And some people ignore questions such as this because they've been "asked and answered".....

As far as crafting things in a factory. When you use a schematic everything must be the same for that schematic, regardless of weather or not it calls for identical. The schematic references an serial number, if that is not the same it won't work.

Think of this example. You experiment up one Light Ore Mining unit to 99% and hand craft it. You create a schematic to make BER 10 mineral mining installations with the 99% LOMU. Mineral mining installations only require 1 LOMU and says nothing about identical or factory made. If the system didn't check for serial numbers you could dump in any old crappy LOMU and still get BER 10s. That is not the case. It checks for the serial number so that you use the same quality component.

Of course wall quality doesn't matter but the system works the same. For a schematic everything has to have the same serial number to work. So you must factory run your structural mods, then factory run your walls.

As far as XP from factories go, I believe the answer is no. Initially you did. Then they changed it to you had to be on the same planet or within 400m or something. Now I believe they have taken it away.
