Thread: Alarming Large house sales
I know that all of you are not from Chilastra but I would like it if you could look at this thread and say what you will. I can't see selling a large house for 60k. Thanks for your time

Xader,
I made a comment about you thinking 5.9 credits was a rip off. This guy plans on selling a PA hall for 70K if you figure in failures on compenents not to mention a failure on the final combine the guys i charging less than 1 credit per resource. That's not even enough to run his harvesters and factory much less make any profit. No one is that good at managing thier resources.

No, that isn't the point. The point is that as a single architect it is impossible to do this. Currently for my 10 harvestors I pay 14400/day. It would then take me at least 2 days to gather all the resources, so that is 28800. Hopefully I have no crit failures, throw in the cost of the 2 factories you need to make this PA hall and you are looking at a profit of maybe 30k. It has nothing to do with managing resources.

Ok...I'll repeat this question again...no one has given a good answer for it.
IF a PA sells a lot of weapons. They use that profit so they can sell houses cheap. Why are they doing this?
It's not to make money because it's a net loss or at best break even (they are robbing Peter to pay Paul).
Is it just to drive YOU out of business? Not likely. First, I doubt there is a concentrated effort on the parts of PAs to drive "independant" architects out of business. For you to think so is self-centered. They aren't worried about you, they are worried about their PA. Second, any PA who THINKS they can do this are foolish. In an open system (open as in anyone can change proffesions at anytime or any new person can start a character at any time) they could NEVER stop "independant" operators.
So, it's not for money. It's not to drive you out of business. WHY are they doing this? Just to "grief" you. I doubt that too. It's too suble a form of "griefing" for it to be enjoyable for a "griefer".
The only logical answer is that your assumption that the architects are operating at a lost is flawed. They aren't. They are just better at the game then you are.
Another thing:
IF the market supports a higher cost on the product then BUY the product and resell it at a higher price. I don't understand the issue here!
There are only 2 possibilities:
1) The market does not support the prices you want to charge
2) He is charging too little
You personally can profit from HIS mistake. Why are you guys griping so much about it. Make MONEY off of it. That's what your complaining about isn't it? That you can't make money? Well, profit from this guys mistake.
If you can't (as in, can't buy his product and sell it at a higher price) then that means the market doesn't support that price. It's as easy as that.
Plus, if his price is less than the cost of making it he won't do it for long.
It's economics, not rocket science.

Thanks for your comments, I have already thought about this long and hard as well. I agree, he must be making some sort of profit or it would not be worth his time. And the market does allow for higher prices, I just wonder why some people don't take advantage of the market that they are in. By this I mean he could charge 140k for a large house easy, I have sold 3 at this price. So I guess my real question to you Xader is would you charge what he is, or would you make a little more. I guess ultimately the money is irrelevant, the money I really need to make is enough to support my mining installations so that I can continue to build houses. Thanks for your replies, I appreciate your thoughts.

Would *I* sell it for that?
No. I'm not as good as he is. I can't afford to sell it for that.
I do try and sell as high as I can but when enough people are walking away and not coming back then I know my prices are too high.
As far as taking advantage of the market; I think you are right. He isn't looking for as much profit as you and I are (or he is a lot better at getting his resources).
You also have to remember advertising. He could sell a few at a break even or loss and get a customer base and then raise his prices (just slightly) when he has them coming to him over and over.
Thanks again for your post. He could be doing exactly what you say and if he is, good for him. Thanks and best of luck to you.

For many people playing architect there is something more valuable than money. The profit they seek is the XP needed to get to master architect so they can make a PA hall (or just to be master). Either way, when you earn two types of income from an activity, you can choose to balance them however your want.
Some people will sell the goods at a loss of credits if it gets them to Master sooner. No one is grinding houses to destroy them, but some people will sell them at or below cost if it means they can keep grinding them out to get the XP.
Other professions may not know it, but making a small house gives the architectalmost 7000xp. At 55,000 required for box 1, that's only8 houses. Ok, each house takes 12 crafted components and over 3000 materials, but that's a day's harvesting with only2 harversters.
I've never given away a house, but I've been tempted to sell them for cost. The only thing that stops me is knowing that it would screw up my future chances for making a profit when I actually care more about that than XP. Unfortunately there are others who will sell that cheap, because they are more worried about XP profit than credit profit.
