How do you see which way the door is facing and rotate the building while in placement mode before you left click and actually place the building?

You need a little bit of experience with the buildings and what the wireframe looks like to find the door in placement mode. It's a pain.

As for rotating it... right-click.

I find it helps to look for the "porch" as they usually jut out a bit.

I have found that the colored box.. red when you cant place, green when you can, sticks out further from the white outlined box on the door side.
