Thread: Urban Planner : Stores and Privacy
With the change today to housing, the need for privacy in buildings that house vendors is more apparent than ever. I personally would like to see an addition with the Urban Planner class (or possibly additional deeds to the architect) which would allow us to build a real "Storefront" to house our vendors, but would also contain a private "Stockroom" area where customers are not allowed to go.
Not sure how hard this functionality would be to implement, but it would allow us to have our crafting/storage areas offlimits to customers, much like most stores function IRL. If you walk into a Best Buy, they're not going to allow you back into the stockroom, only out on the showcase floor.
This functionality would also add something I've been wanting, the ability to have a Private Vendor.
Currently you can only place a vendor in a public structure, and any structure with a vendor cannot be private. This negates the ability to have a "Wholesale" vendor that is only available to your PA or Friends. When collision was still implemented, I could simply admin whomever I wanted, and they could remove a blocker (crafting station) that restricted access to an upstairs "private" vendor. This is no longer the case.
Regardless of whether this is possible, I think the Urban Planner profession should contain "Store" deeds, that appear more like a real store, instead of a house converted into a store. Give us display cases, counters, registers, etc. Make the stores discernable from a persons house from the external appearance, I think this would be a welcome change.
Thoughts, Comments?
I like the idea of stores, I would make tehm a function of teh general Architect, but otherwise I agree.
What were the changes in houses today that highlighted this need for privacy? I must have missed something in the patch notes I saw.
IF that were the case, then a true Mall could be formed with the merchant running the show.
Which to me is how it should have been in the first place.
I think he has eluded as to why exactly everybody can place more than 1 house though.
Prior to today you had collision with certain objects (crates / crafting stations) which couldnt be walked through.
Only persons with admin access could move these objects, thus allowing for certain areas of a house to be "off limits" to anyone without admin rights.
Yes, collision is turned of inside houses now, hence the borked doors.
I would go the entry fee route, but I use my store for public sales along with private sales. I'd have to get another building, and there should simply be an easier way to gain this functionailty.
Mheal I don't understand why you can't still use your blocker strategy. Nothing has changed about only people with admin rights being able to pick things up. Are you saying there is now no collision?
