so i built this manufacturing station and it says its got a functionality rating of 12 all i want to know is what does this mean? does it increase my chance of success of creating and item? and does anyone know what the highest number is?

well, to this point there is no definitive evidence that it does anything for you. some have speculated it raises your amazing and great successes while experimenting if you have a high number. others have said they think it helps stop crit fails. the highest number i've heard anyone getting to this point is about a +40 with all subcomponents maxed on effectiveness using top quality materials for everything.

I'm hitting +41 on my stations.

Maybe it's too rare of an occurrence, but I haven't noticed any difference in using high Efficiency numbers vs. low end resource made machines.

Yeah, my best to date is 41.39257, on a Weapon/droid/gen station.

Man, I really need some better materials.

Oh, and now that you mention it, I do seem to be getting a bit more amazing successes on experimentation.

I'm guessing that the functionality is used as a modifier against the complexity of the item... but that's just a guess.

I tried doing some tests (132) experimenting between a -12 and -2 weapon station, and saw no radical differences. But I'd like to test more.

However, I'd like to get an uber-quality station. So what you're saying is that using better artisan items, like control units and droid storage dealies, affects the final effectiveness modifier?

Yes. It's pretty much all the difference. Making a non-experimented one out of crap materials seems to render a negative 12 or so station. With no optional components, but using a 997 conductivity copper and max experimentation, I was able to make some up near positive 20. It was only when I begam producing GP modules, control units, energy distributors and microsensor suites out of the highest quality materials I could find, and experimenting each and every sub component up to max, that I was able to produce some crafting stations up in the high 30's.
