Thread: Resource Shift Suggestions
I don't mind hunting for the resources, in fact I see it critical to competition. My issues is the way the shift happens and the for site in it's distribution.
1) I feel as if patches should start at a large concentration 100-90% then gradually shift out. Say 4 days at 90% then after being mined for 4 day they shift to 60-70%. 4 days later 40-50%, all the way down to 0%. That way we can tell the condition of the resource by the % we plant on. It makes more sense that we mine out a resource than have it shift from under us.
2) A big problem I see with the current distributions is that there is no consideration to the surface they fall under. How many times have you found a 80% patch in the middle of water or in a grove of trees? I believe SOE should take terrain into consideration rather than a random distribution. The game should know what areas can support buildings and center the deposits there OR make a building area more flexible.
I would cry if the 90% vein i found and mined for a day shifted and became 60%... It takes a long enough time as it is already to scour a planet to find a decent spot every 6-8 days, without having to do it every 2-3 days. Yes it is annoying when some of the best spots you can find are in the water or on an unbuildable area. But since the system is randomly distrubuted I dont see a way to fix that. It makes sense that materials would still exist even if thye are on top of a hill or underneath the water.
But with your first suggestion, its hard enough to find a 50% ore spot, imagine if when you finally found that spot, it became 30% in 2-3 days. You would have extra fees to have to move the harvester to a better spot and all that extra time searching for that better spot. Right now, as it is, you can move your harvesters once a week. For people who play after work, they dont want to have to spend every day searching for new spots and moving their harvesters, but once a week isnt so bad.
I do like your second suggestions as to where the highest points should be located. I found a 65 carbonate ore and the highest place i could build on was like 50. It is such a pain also when the highest place is located directly in a city. I think that having the highest locaions placed in relatively flat areas would help out greatly
