Thread: Decorating houses

Got a house recently. Started decorating it last night.

Man, what a pain! It'd be so much easier if there was a grid of some sort, where we could place items similar to the manner in which installations are placed on landscape. One of my guild mates told me about the /move and /rotate commands, which certainly helped, but it's still tedius.

Further, is there no way to raise items? I dropped some instruments, and they're sitting halfway through the floor. I'd like to be able to place them on a tabletop or on a wall. Can't figure out how to do it. In two-story structures, I imagine you'd do it by dropping them on the stairs and moving them as needed. Doesn't help in a flat. We really need an easier way to place items in a house.

Also, I have some locked containers I'd had sliced. Nothing useful inside, but I thought they'd be convenient dumps for all the crud I find while foraging for bait. However, I can't access them. "You don't have permission..." They're my containers, placed in my house, by me. Why can't I access them?

Finally, are torches the only source of light? (Aside from your personal light, that is.) I don't really want to put torches indoors (seems kinda strange), but can't tell whether any of the lamp options actually give off light. I'd much rather have lamps that torches.

Drop items you want on the walls or elevated on the stairs, then /move them they will float forever!

It's a flat. Small Corellian.I don't have any stairs to work with.

Devs, please augment /movefurniture as follows...

When using /move forward or /move back, please don't say it's invalid when it's too near a wall, instead please actually move it up against the wall.

Please add /move up and /move down, to work in a similar fashion. This would make placing items on tables or walls much simpler. Further, please respect item collisions,such that this would work properly (i.e. lowering an item such that it would sit on a table top by saying /move down, and having it automatically sit on the table when the collision occured).

Provide an overhead view of the current room, similar to the overhead terrain view used when placing an installation. It would make furniture placement much easier.

Yes these are minor compared to actual bugs, but it doesn't invalidate the wish.

The only item I was actually able to place on a wall was a backpack. Everything else fell to the floor.

Anybody know why I can't access my empty containers?

don't know about the containers...

friend has free standing lamps and they give off no light...i use torches...

for placement i put move macros in my F6 toobar and i can just switch to it for decorating...

/move forward 1;

/move back 1;

/rotate right;

/rotate left;

/rotate right 45;

/rotate left 45;

you could add more angles to like 10, 15, 20 in order to get the angle just right. I can decorate really fast by just dropping furniture close to where i want it and then hitting myF keys until it is just right!

and again, as of now, stairs are the only way to get things off the floor...

good luck

Unlocked Containers.. I had the same problem. What I found was that if you pick up the container you can transfer items into it from your inventory. You then drop the container & voila! The kicker is, you cant get the stuff out of it unless you pick it up again. So make sure you have the inventory space.

another thing i notice is, the front of the item you are placing is in relation to the direction you are facing. If you are facing south, once drop, the couch will be facing south.

It's funny, I was actually able to open an unlocked container in Jad's shop on Talus-Kettemoor. There were creature containers inside it, and as a test I tried to open one of those. Sure enough, it worked. Bugs started flying around the room. It sounds as though containers may be bugged (heh, heh) in general if I can't access my own, but I can access containers in other people's houses.

Currently, backpacks on the walls seem to be the easiest mass storage system.

Well, having just given up on the holo-grind, I find myself with a lot more time on my hands I've gone back to decorating my house, but I'm running out of ideas for unique ways to decorate it.

I was hoping someone would know of a site that posts pictures of decorated houses, kinda like Garva's weekly house decorating thread.
