Thread: Fusion Generator vs Mineral Harvestor

Alright, I heard that radioactive was the best thing to get power from. So I'm trying to harvest that instead of Wind.

I know Fusion Generator doesn't need power to function, so this is a plus. But how high is it's maintenance?

Or maybe is it better to get a Mineral Harvester, with (maybe) lower maintenance, but it uses power too.

What's the BER of a good Fusion Generator? Maintenance? Lots taken?

Best rate on a Fusion Gen is 14BER. It's maint is 60/hr

Best rate on a HEAVY Mineral is 13BER. Maint is 90/hr + 75/hr power.

Best rate on a medium is 10BER and costs 60/50 resp.

Lets see how much power you can get.

assume 80% source.

FG: 11.2 samples/min, 672/hr=16128/day for 1440c (0.089 c/unit)

HH: 10.4 s/min, 624/hr=14976/day.-1800power = 13176(0.0.1639c/unit)

MH: 8/min, 480/hr=11520/day - 1200power = 10320 (0.1395 c/unit)

Lets factor in the cost for the three items:

Fusion Gen ~150,000

HH: ~125,000

MH: 42,000 (Low price with tax that I have seen lately)

Asuming you are harvesting power to sell at 1:1, then your yields are:

FG:16128 - 1440=14688 = 10.2 days to start making profit

HH:13176 - 2160=11016 = 8.03 days to profitability

MH: 10320 -1440=8880 = 4.79 days to profitability.

You can run the numbers to see what you think is best for your situation.

Thank you!

I guess I'll ask my guild's architect to build me a Fusion Generator. Price will prolly be lower than what you said, 'cuz I got my HH from him for 80K (Guild Price). I know it will take longer to start making profits, but I can do other profits by selling the ressources from my other harvs, buffing people, and selling vehicles when they go live (yeah, I'm Master Doc and Master Artisan. Bad thing is almost no fighting skills for me).

Thanks again!

Besides the pull rate and economics, there is also an issue with hopper size and maximum possible amount of power you pull. That is, if you have 8-9 heavies in the field, then a single MH won't keep up.

In the long run, you want a BER14 (or better) fusion.

As MistakenIdent points out, there are some situations where using a mineral harvester can make sense.

If someone is in the midst of upgrading their fleet from all smalls, including wind, to mediums or heavies, then using 1-2 harvesters to pull up radioactive during the upgrade process can make sense in terms of capital investment and flexibility.
