Is it possible to convice people that paying 45cpu is completely insane, as far as I know, it doesnt cost anything extra to harvest "good" minerals compared to "bad" minerals. I do relize there are incidental costs, such as traveling from planet to planet, but cant those costs just be amde up with a few survey missions every trip? And even if they didnt, i dont think an increase of 5cpu is necessary?

Anyway, I wanted to pose a few questions to architects (And really, all professional crafters) how many of you buy your resources to use? How much do you pay on average (cpu)? How hard would it be to boycott buying resources for mor ethan 4 or 5 cpu? If you do buy your resources, how much do you charge for your final product, and how easy does it sell?

Im just curious as to if im th eonly one who is often forced to sell final product at 2-3cpu when I also have to buy some of the resources at 4-5cpu?

Suppose you've got a schematic for a $180K BER13 heavy chemical extractor.

Suppose the generator turbines that go into that schematic were the first ones you made three weeks ago -- and you have tons of aluminum and copper and steel left over from your resource hoarding, but you forgot that you only had 2500 of that two-month-old grinding polymer when you started. And you used most of those generators in that dozen medium minerals someone offered you $600K for two days ago if you could get them to him before midnight.

Given the choice between re-experimenting a brand new schematic for everything that used those generator turbines (at a cost of 30000 units of material per failed experiment), all of a sudden, paying 4-5 CPU (or even 10 CPU!) for 1000 units of extinct grindpolymer (== 50 more generator turbines == 25 more $180K heavy chemical extractors) is still a viable option.

There is this thing called "the marketplace" where people buy and sell according to their needs. It's driven by supply and demand. AngryHoopJumper just gave a very real example where it would be in someone's economic best interest to buy at a "high" price. There are *lots* of examples like that.

On Chilastra there had been no Dolovite Iron for a long time. The doctors needed it to make the best "something" (key component for some meds). Without it they either wouldn't be able to make the thing at all, or would have to make a sub-optimal version. So for awhile people that had that iron were selling it for 30 cpu.

If I'm a resource hound, then yes, I make a good living by mining things for 0.50 credit per unit and selling them at 2-3 cpu. However, just like people who invest their money, I've always got my eye out for that "home run" resource that I can sell for 6-10+ credit per unit.

So you have the freedom to buy at whatever price you are willing to pay. And the other guy has the freedom to decline to sell it to you if someone else will pay more.

Chilastra: Mikka R'zrPoint, Spy (Master Ranger/Master Pistoleer)
Chilastra: Zalle RazorPoint, Trader:Engineer (Master Architect, Master DE, Master Shipwright) - vendors just north of Theed at -3858 6181
Test Center: Rikka R'zrPoint, Master Artisan, Master Architect - showroom just south of Theed at -5370, 3139
