Ok. First the screen shot then I will explain what you are looking at.

Ok.. I made a run of components etc to do a run of deep crust chem harvs. The walls were all 85%+ for experimentation. The resources used in the harv itself were all 950+ for UT. The screenie shows that the turbo fludic pumps are at 6 next to the final result of the harv. The experimetnation on the harv's efficincy is up to 95% AND STILL IT CAME OUT 12 BER???????
Can someone attempt to explain this? Every item that could be experimented upon was experimented to over 85% (most above 90). The rest were all still made with high end resources. This is stupid. I have been an archi since beta and never seen this happen.
PS- no, there were no critical fails etc on any part for crafting.

Heh already made a run of just under 1k of these. lol the metal and chem in them was primo stuf, and I dont have enough to do another full run.

Hmm..I seem to recall something similar happening with me yesterday but put it down to being killed and cloned when I accidentally have my level 15 crafting tool on me. Ill test this this evening.

I believe that we have some details in the FAQ, and there is a *very* detailed description in a thread here about how to make top-rated harvesters.
It *may* be the case that you've found a new bug. However, ****every single time**** someone has come here and said "I can make BER13 type X harvesters but only BER12 type Y harvesters" it turns out that they have done 1 or 2 specific things that resulted in that lower rating.
First off, the *only* components where quality matters for harvesters are the "mining components" (e.g., Ore Mining Units, Turbo Fluidic Drilling Pump Units, etc). Every other component (wall, generator turbine, etc) can be made out of the crappiest stuff you have.
Second, you should absolutely *ignore* the so-called "rating" on those mining components. It's extremely misleading. People have done experiments that have shown that the *quality* of that mining component is crucial to success. That is, you may hit "ber6" on the mining component at (for example) 87%, but you should always completely experiment it up as high as you can go - certainly into the 90s. I have 92-97% mining components and easily hit BER13 for all my harvesters.
Third, anyplace where it asks for "chemical", use lube oil. It has NONE of the desired properties (HR/SR/UT) and therefore doesn't "water down" your good steel, metal, and ore.
Fourth, for the mining component and the final assembly, ALL of the resources should be either high (over 900) in HR/SR/UT, or have none of those attributes (e.g., lube oil). That means that steel, metal, and ore for the final assembly need to have those high attributes.
Given that you are hitting 95% on the final and still getting BER12, it is almost a sure thing that you have mining components (turbo fluidic drilling pump units in your case) that are lower quality than you need. I'm sorry that you ran off a zillion of them, but my guess is that if you use that batch you will be doomed to only get BER12 chemical harvesters from them.

Don't tell me you've been experimenting on walls since beta, have you?

This seems like bugged pumps to me.
Make a few and test with those

Also, 2nd what Zen said. I never use any part (turbo pump, omu, heavy harv) unless it is over 90%. I think this is the most crucial element in the calculation from mey experience. I can get away with using steel that is 875 or better HR,SR, UT for the final combine, but the part needs to be 90% or better. Typically mine are 92-94%.

Did you experiment the pumps to 90+? It aint enough to experiment on'em till they reach BER 6 at 84ish. You need'em at 90+.

What was the HR and SR on the matierials for final combine?
I am running into the opposite, I am getting BER 13 at around 82-84%. Sometimes I am tempted to see if a 14 might pop, but it never does. So now all my harvs have well over 120k hoppers.
