Thread: New decorating proposals that help with storage limits :)

I like both options. But for the interior decorator profession, I see little future. Maybe add it to the furnituretree or the house tree. Or maybe make the interior decorator class very similar to the image designer. Have that profession be able to add porches, sundesks, yards, paint the outside and inside of the building. And give them the option to customize Furniture!!!

Are you tired of entering static buildings and seeing the wonderful design jobs that the devs have done (like the ranchers house in the hero of tatooine quest)? At the core of their ability to circumvent the structure storage limits is what I believe to be the fact that their decorations cease being objects in the database and become "static", as in part of the building. You can't click on the objects and examine them, so they are no longer a seperate entity, but part of the larger whole. With this in mind I have come up with 2 proposed game additions that will allow for decorations that won't affect building storage limits.

1. Add an ability to attach an object/decoration to the building, as in make it a part of the building or static. A new radial option on the object could be 'Add this item as a decoration'. If this is selected the object is now an unselectable part of the building like the decorations in buildings. It is removed from the database of the character and the building and no longer counts towards the buildings storage capacity. This feature could be given to anyone when they have an object in their house, it could be a special skill to architects, or it could be a skill given to a new profession like Interior Decorator.

Pros:

  • Would allow people to decorate their house and still be able to store stuff in it.

  • Would take many of the 'decorations' out of the databases

  • Would appease many people that are torn between decorating and using what little storage space they have for resources and other stuff they need to stockpile.

Cons:

  • I have no idea if this is even technically possible.

  • Once decorations are tied to a building what would happen if the building was redeeded? Would it be able to remember what it looked like customized next time it was dropped?

2. This one is targeted more for architects and might be more technically feasible. A person sets up the house they want and decorates it as much as they can with the current storage limits of that house. They then contact their preferred architect who comes, and using an option on the structure terminal only they get, creates a new schematic of that house with those objects in their respective locations. Then they build the house and once the deed isplaced ithas all the items in them as permanent fixtures.

Pros:

  • Adds new functionality to a limited profession like architect.

  • Would appease many people that are torn between decorating and using what little storage space they have for resources and other stuff they need to stockpile.

  • Being that the initial house the schematic is made of has storage limitations, to fully decorate you would still possibly need more architect made items. This is nice because you don't want to take away a large part of architects income.

Cons:

  • Again, I have no idea if this is technically possible.

  • Doesn't really remove the original items used to get the decorated structure template out of the database.

  • Getting the initial decorated house requires all the stuff you are trying to conserve on.

But...with option 2 there is a much more feasible reason to create a new professionlike Interior Decorator. Then this decorator could own the different types of houses as well as an assortment of decorations. When someone contacts them for work done they make the prototype that everyone agrees on, then the architect is called in. Examples of leveling for the decorator might be increasing their complexity for dropping/decorating objects in the house as well as maybe the amount of things they can put in the house. The only issues I see with the new profession is how do they get xp? Are they granted xp every time an architect makes a schematic of a decorated house? not the best way i can think of to get xp considering the grind mentality inherent in the system until you are a master.

So with that said, I'm interested in feedback from everyone. Maybe this has all been thought of before, or maybe I'm way out in left field
