Thread: Speeders and Ships

First off, I think Droid Engineers should get speeders straight up. Those poor bastards.

Anyway, this is how space ships might work.

Player goes to an architect to buy one Deed for: YT-1300 Hull. Architect tells player the price. Player complains a lot. Player claims that someone offered to sell one for 11k last night. Architect patiently explains the costs of producing this item and invites player to persue the other offer. Player sulks for a while and eventually comes back. Architect combines carbonate ore, steel, reactive gas, copper, aluminum and 137 Identical Wall Modules (from a factory crate). Architect sells deed for cost.

Player goes to a weaponsmith to buy weapons. Weaponsmith combines 3 units of doonium iron and some sand to produce 3 Class 7 Turbo Lasers (street price, 200k each). Player happily does missions for three months to afford these.

Player goes to an armorsmith to buy deflectors. Armorsmith combines droid modules, energy distributors, power conditioners, a weapon repair kit, a GP module, 3 brown left shoes, and 1000 units of 'armophous gemstones' to produce 13 different things who's names begin with "Deflector Sheild". Armorsmith hunts through their inventory for an hour before finally producing a Ship Fore Port Deflector Mk 1. Armorsmith gets 11 experience points. Repeat for Fore Starboard, Aft Port, Aft Starboard, Ventral and Dorsal units.

Player goes to a droid engineer. Player asks to buy a repulsorlift module and a navicomuter. Between sobs, the droid engineer explains that there's a bug that prevents
navicomputers from remembering waypoints, so the player had better write them down. Also, repulsorlifts won't work until Wednesday.

Player goes to a master artisan to buy a hyperdrive motivator. Master artisan can barely communicate due to his advanced carpal tunnel syndrome. Master artisan's trained monkey is eventually able to produce a hyperdrive motivator.

Player invokes the deed, enters his new ship and installs all these modules. Player fires up the engines and the server crashes. When the player is finally able to log on, he's been sent back in time to before any of this happened.

Repeat.

Trained monkey? I don't have a trained monkey, why do artisans get one? I demand you nerf them, severely. So that the monkey needs a trained monkey. And they can be perma killed. That'll show those monkeys who's boss.

Due to popular demand, we have nerfed trained monkeys.

From now on trained monkey XP will only be 10% of normal XP. Unless your trained monkey is practicing, in which case it's +5% of 10% of normal XP.

Also, trained monkeys will no longer click the mouse for you, you have to do that yourself.

I thought everyone had 3 monkeys at the start?

Ok, we're getting a lot of CSR tickets about the monkey issue. Obviously this is something you all feel very strongly about.

We don't feel that we would be doing the Star Wars theme justice by removing trained monkeys from the game entirely. But it's obvious that trained monkeys are grossly overpowered, so something must be done.

We're looking into some kind of cert system for trained monkeys. Some people have complained about more than one trained monkey at a time, and we're considering limiting this as well.

But until these changes have a chance to go through testcenter, we've decided on the following.

A) Trained Monkeys will no longer be trainable. This is just too powerful, people were blowing the XP curve left and right. Our numbers show that with a trained monkey it only takes a month to go from master artisan to droid engineer. Obviously we can't let this go on.

B) Trained Monkeys will no longer be monkeys. Currently we're looking at some squirrel artwork.

C) We will be changing the name of Trained Monkeys to better reflect these alterations. When the next TC update is pushed through all you TMs will change to Feral Squirrels.

I hope this addresses the issues everyone has been having with Trained Monkeys.

Bbay I just want to thank you for making my morning a little bit brighter. My dry cleaner would also like to thank you as I managed to spill grapefruit juice all over myself after that feral squirrel comment.

Keep up the good work!

You forgot some things:

-Architect must fail finalassembly at least once.

-Weaponsmith sells lasers for 200k each, despite production cost of only 1k.

-Armorsmith must also build: atmospheric shielding, cargo hold shielding, armor plating, and several other types of items. Items must invariably include some type of organic component, such as hides, bone, meat, remains of trained monkeys, etc. despite having no actual organic composition whatsoever.

-Droid engineer must also build an astromech model for the ship to fly correctly. The module for this droid will not be available until creature handlers have been upped (again).

-Unlike trained monkeys, Feral Squirrels cannot build hyperdrive motivators, but will gleefully chew apart any assorted cables needed during construction. The masterartisan must hand-combine the components needed for the hyperdrive motivator, which includes several components, made of several components, made of several components, made of 10 different boxes with 1 unit of every type of ore known to man and an electronics GP module.

-Not only is the player warped back in time to before this happened, they are also warped back to 0,0,surrounded by camps of disgruntled, former trained monkey union members out to seek revenge, accompanied by random mobs they killed during missions to afford said lost starship. That, or they are warped to 0,0 in space, thereby instantly exploding (accompanied by impossible space sound effects, courtesy of LucasArts) and leaving an un-recoverable corpse.

We feel this will greatly enhance the playing experience.

Already done,

Because it was crashing the servers you only get one monkey at startup now.
