Thread: Tricks of the trade..

Ok folks. I am only about 65% to master architect, but i have learned a few tricks that seemingly most even masters do not know. I'd like to share them with you in hopes that they help you all have pretty houses..

1. Turning on the lights.

yes the only light to work is a torch. And while torches hold a certain 'mystique' its rather dumb to assume that since space travel is mastered, we cant make a lightbulb. My workaround for this problem is this. make yourself a toch and then make yourself a lamp. Go to the spot in your house you want the lamp to illuminate. Now drop the torch. Now drop the lamp. The lamp model envelops the slender torch and you now have a light source lamp. Yes, there is some smoke coming out of the top of your lamp, but hey it still looks better then a torch..

2. Size matters now, just lift the freakin rock.

So desk lamps and floral arrangments got ya down? literally? Only able to drop them on the floor and such right? Well not true. There IS a way to rais and lower the hieght of objects, BUT it will not owrk in small houses, and even with medium / large it takes some time and a little effort. Here is how you do it. First: Figure out roughly how high offthe ground you want the object. Dont think in pixels etc, just eyeball it up. Waist height? 10 feetish? Ok. Second. Take your item to the stairs in your living room or someplace else close. YOU MUST BE ON STAIRS!. Go up the stairs till your feet are as high as you want the object. Now drop the object on the ground. (we'll say you are droppingthe bidcage for example and want it on a table inthe middle of the room.) Ok so now you ahve a birdcage on the stairs. Here come the tricky bit.

3. Moving objects with the force.

Turn your character so you are FACING the table in question and have the birdcage between you and the table. You must be BEHIND the birdcage facing both birdcage and table. Now.. there is a command to MOVE furniture around your house. (no not off the radial, its a typed command). Ok so your positioning is correct now. Target the birdcage and type /move forward ##. (where ## is equal to a number which signifies the distance you want it moved). Now your birdcage should move out the specified distance AND STILL BE OFF THE GROUND! You can also do /move back ## in case you over shot it. The exact numbers are wierd and I am uncertain what the ratios are exactly, but a /move forward 100 will take an item from roghly one side of of the main room in a medium house and put it near the middle. It will take you a few agonizing minutes to get it to where you want it. The trick is that the command will movethe item you have targeted THE DIRECTION YOU ARE FACING. Getting the angle right may take you a few tries, and can be a source of irritation, but great pride when you finaly get that birdcage on the table.

4. Beware the dark side.

Now while pushing your birdcage around you may get a message that says "invaild destination" or something. What this means is that you have tried to move your birdcage inside part of the structure. (wall, pillar etc). By increasing (or decreasing) the number in the move command you should be able to put your birdcage behind or infront of the offending structure part. So lets say there is a a pillar between your birdcage and the table. You enter a move command with a 10 space measurement. It says "Invalid destination". What will happen is your birdcage will move as far as the structure part, and not go further. So now your birdcage is against the pillar. Enter another move command (starting with a low number) and try moving it again. If yuo get the "invalid destination" (or whatever the error says I forget) increase the number in the move command. Eventually when the move command has enough distance in it, you wll have a distance PAST the structure part and it will move your item there. By doing this you can move items thru the blockages and theoriectically through walls into ajoining parts of your house. (moving item from stairs in one room, through a wall and into another room is possible, but i have not explored this in depth, i recemend you try it with a low cost item first just incase you lose it in a wall.)

5. Angling

Ok so now you have that birdcage on the table, but your favorite chair just wont line up to look at it using the radial dials ROTATE command. Well there is a command that allows you to rotate furniture on individual degrees. It works just like the /move command. but its /rotate left (or right) ##. (where the ## is a number up to forty degrees) Using this command will allow you to put furniture etc at offset angles rather then always north south east and west facing. Thus allowing you to make your house much more appealing and customized.

6. Pass on what you have learned.

I taught all this to a master architect. They were shocked. they told me "you should sell this info to the other architects!" and i thought on that. But this game is about fun, and if cusomization is fun for you, who am I to try and charge you for your enjoyment. You already bought the game. SO i pass along this info freely. (yesi have met one or two architects who knew how to do some of this, but not one who could do it all). I ask each of you to try and pass this info along to people when yuo sell them furiture etc. For one thing it will endear them to yo for making thier house look as they want it and it will make for repeat business. For another thing, it just lets people enjoy the game more which is what its all about.

The rotate option is great along with the other ones , my medium home looks much better now. Just wish they would implement a height command would be nice , and have the lamps actually work as light sources.I would love to see paintings and wall mountings of some type , maybe wall mounted lighting also would to see the option to be able to place items on a balcony and make some sitable items hold more then 1 , kinda goofy having that large yellow couch and only person can sit on it.

As far as wall mounted items go.. using the method for hieght i decribed above you can seemingly hang items on walls. You just have to find things that look good on it. Example: I have swords on some walls, i have heard of people dropping fish and putting them up there as trophys etc.

Drop something cool in your house and see how it looks. Anything can be decoration. Heh heh my guild personally uses a dropped "fruit" resource for a podium lol. It looks ok but i still cant take our leader seriously when he is behind some apples.

I'm glad this post helped you guys =)
