Thread: 2 Ideas for Architect Items
the second idea IS GREAT!
the first i dont agree to much with, but i think there should be three:
1. loading pictures 2 frames
2. colorized furniture
3. able to make rugs
I like both ideas.
They could add several types of display cases and trophy pedestals to expand on idea #1.
However, #2 might be hard for SOE to implement. If they made it so everyone could load screenshots then they'd have to be able to send all those pictures to people as they enter a house. If someone had a bunch of those pictures it could take a long time to download those especially if someone is on dialup. They could make it so you can display your own picture only to yourself on the client side. But everyone else would see a generic image. But then the owner of the picture would be the only one able to see it.

I think that the screenshot idea is possible. I play other online games where you can pick any photo of your hardrive to use as your "spraypaint image" and all the other players are able to view it when you "spray" it. I am not a programmer, but I think they could figure out a way
Since neither of these ideas will ever be implemented, it is fun to speculate on what would be cool and whatnot. I like both these ideas, but in particular #2. However two issues would have to be resolved before in s realistic.
1. If a spraypaint idea would be used, I can see one drawback that would keep this on the shelf. I see unsavory images used as spray very often. While these are not offensive to me, I can see where others might find them so. This problem is manageable in CS because server admins self-police. If they don't like it, your go to banned city. I don't see that happening in SWG.
2. Most pics in my hard drive are non-starwarswy. Given the relative scarcity of corellian corvettes in the US, I can't imagine being able to snap any pics with a starwars feel (trust me, no one wants to see me ina Liea costume). Again, this is one of those problems I bet SOE would have a problem with.
Any ideas on how to solve these issues?

Lets make one thing CRYSTAL CLEAR. I am NOT suggesting that people would be able to use their personal photos in the picture frame idea. I am sure that the devs could code it in a way that ONLYSCREENSHOTS FROMSWG could be used in the frames.
I only mentioned the "spraypaint" concept because someone didnt think it would be possible to implement my idea and Iwas pointing out thatI thought the technology waspossible based on the "spraypaint" model.
I am not a dev, but I would think it could be coded so that when you take an in game screenshot an encrypted code would be in the filename thus allowing only pics with said code to be loaded into the architect crafted picture frames.
Just imagine being able to take a screenie of the first time you pulled your lightsaber as a Jedi or when you tamed you Baby Bull Rancor and then being able to hang those pictures on your house.
That is a clarification of idea #2
Thank you for your time.

As mentioned by akaaj66, other games do use this 'spraypaint' (e.g. Counter-Strike). Yet in Galaxies, loading furniture items is often long as it is and adding a custom picture for everyone would make it worse. However, if the pictures are fitting into a picture frame, you're shrinking 1024 x 768 down to 103 x 77. Generally, place the screenshot into a folder in the Galaxies directory, at a 5Kb file size limit and you're away. Even on dialup, that picture will only take a second. If loading time is still an issue, you can implement a two file per character limit.
I also like the idea of a badge cabinet. As it is, badges are abstract and sit in your biography. Why should people go out of their way to get them? This would add something to that.
Great ideas!
