Thread: 3 Day Structure rot. Bad, Evil, or Sith?

Since a day old post goes to page 23 on the regular forum I'll ask the experts.

What do you think of the 3 day structure rot code? Take the casual gamer, no time to make the millions to advance pay maintenance for 2 months. He/she gets in some unavoidable situation (hurricane/car wreck/grounded) and can't play for a week. Should they be guaranteed to lose everything?

Now add in a few factors: data is lost (paymaintenance perhaps?), the well documented accelerated maintenance bug, and/or any random change to the system. No one is guaranteed their structures wont rot. You don't get any email, no obvious problems. You are basically required to check on your structures daily for as long as you play the game. Ex EQ junkies: how many vacations did you take over 3 years playing?

I have suggestions, but I'm going to step back and let the masters of the trade discuss. Thanks for all the hard work in making my houses and factories, even the ones that rot 2 days ahead of schedule. Let's help the little guys who can't laugh at losing200k of structures andparts.

I didn't realize it took only 3 days for a structure to go from 100% to 0% and poof. Now that I know this, I support it.
I don't mean to squish newbie architects under an oppresive thumb but I want to squish all those other thousands of NON-architects that are using heavies. Let those guys that have heavies and let them burn for three days because they haven't gotten the chance to get to them, pay the price. I know what it was like having only a couple personal harvesters and no money to speak of beside credits that were earmarked for maintenance fees.
If something happens in real life and you lose those harvesters, sit back, take a break, and skip a cycle. Take your frustrations out on some durni or krayt dragons. Come back with some credits and a new perspective on the architect profession.

I support 3 day rot (actually I thought it was -1%damage per hour and that made out to be 4days,4hours but I digress).

I had a situation last week with hurricane Isabel that landed on the east coast.

I was smart and planned ahead though, and instead of letting my harvesters out there to takedamage/rot in the even that I lost power for many days or weeks, I went out and ripped them all up out of the ground.

Ended up having no power for 3 days once the winds hit.

Anyway, I support the 3-day-rot. It's not hard to keep maintenance in them.

Personally I think they should increase the rot timer. Allow us to sell more homes

And furniture and weapons and armor. Obviously it makes financial sense to wish ill will on others. The point is we will learn how to get around the rotting no matter what the rule. You guys said it yourself, paying maintenance is easy enough. Architects will not benefit from any changes to make it harder to keep a house. The only people hurt by the 3 day rot (and for a clothing factory it seemed more like 2 days) are the new players and the casual players. They way it's set up a casual player will never buy a house if he knows he has to log in everyweek to play. What I suggest should increase your business.

Suggestion:

Don't change harvesters, these need to break and aren't storage devices. The only loss here is the structure itself. My suggestion only affects storage structures.

At 50% maint, the structure (non-harvester)breaks: Houses have NO light, can't get into hoppers, can't even pay maintenance. The maintenance never drops lower. The structure never disappears.

Novice Architects get a Repair Structure command to bring a structure slowly back to 0%. Once at 0% the structure is functional again. Obviously novices would charge for this and it could even require Ore based on size of the structure. It still forces a money drain but gives architects additional value.

Finally, limit the number of redeeds of houses and factories and PAs. These were not designed to be moved around and should suffer some integrity decay each time it is redeeded. I think a simple 2 redeeds per house would help your sales more than waiting around like vultures over anabandoned house.

3 day rot is the bad.

More reasons for people not to have a house..without adding more functions to houses= less.
