I had a group ask me to build them a city hall, guild hall and 21 houses...

So i do them a quote, aimed a bit high leaving room to negotiate...

  • City Hall - 600k

  • Guild Hall - 400k

  • Houses - 200k for the lot

I get a gmail back saying this is too much, houses go for 6k each...

Then i get another (i'm offline got them both at the same time) that they have got the houses and another architect has told them that the going rate for guild and city halls is 200k...

I revised my quote telling them i would lower the prices by 50k on each of the halls, have yet to hear back.

First, am I wrong that city halls cost about 40% extra to produce so should be higher in price?

Was that other architect way out on the "going rate" for halls?

Are the prices i aimed for really unreasonable?

at 4cpu, a PA hall is 220k and a city hall is 327k. But again, prices vary from server to server. You're prices were approximately 7cpu, which for architects, sadly, is way too high. No one is going to pay that, considering the average house goes for 2-3 cpu.

Wahrg! Let's not start another pricing discussion. Let's just say: make your prices the way you feel it's right. Check the local market and start to compete. Don't sell low if you think you can't afford it. For a small architect business (one man shows, so to say), this order is some load of work. If you feel the urge to ask for 7 CpU, just do so.

My piece of advice: never discuss pricing ranges with customers if it comes to "That other guy sells for half the price". If they find an architect suiting their needs for lower rates, let them have it. Other people will come along who still value a good piece of hand crafted architecture

I agree with the rest of these posts. Make your prices and stick to them. On an order like this, I would have actually gave them a discount for all the stuff they have bought, but it still would have been at least 5cpu.

When architects realize that they don't have to charge based on resources alone, we will all be better off. In the meantime, if you value your work, charge what you will and let those people who think you charge to much find someone cheaper.

I think you prrices are fair. Considering how much a pain in the rear a city hall is to make, especially for the identicle power cores, and the fact that it's just such a big ticket and specialized item that has to pretty much be custom made since they aren't normally mass produced (I don't know many architects that have pre made city halls premade). I once sold a city hall for 250k shortly after I mastered architect (which was about a month ago), and boy was I kicking myself after I actually made it and realized how much a pain in the butt it was to make. Now that I realize it's such a specialized item I've altered my price for city halls to 500k. That's fair considering that once you have it it's not going anywhere, and also that a lot of people will get use from it. If they have to cash or can get the cash to sink ~100k a week in a city, then they should be able to pay 500k for the city hall.

Here's the advantage: BE PREPARED

I did a run of 999 power cores using low end stuff that's collected. Actually, I would do 200 at a time and then basically use a small house to store them and the resource set for further use.

Then I ran off the structure storage modules at about 400 at a time.

Go buy 20 C3PO shells from a good DE.

Now whenever someone needs something I can make city halls, or whatever, I have them ready to be built in minutes. Literally I can make a whole city civil buildings set in 10 minutes from entering the storage house.

Personally City Halls are 400k, all PA's I price at 320k.

EVEN city purchasing, in this game, is somewhat of a impulse buy. When you get that call to build a city make sure you can produce FAST and you'll be the guy they come back to have it done the next time for anything.
