Thread: My story. OUR story. (funny)

Ok.

Most of you don't know me, so a little back story is in order.
I've been a Master Architect from the beginning. I think I was the third to hit on Gorath.
I've never seen much of a need to sell below 3cpu for structures. You may have your own opinion on that, but I've been making a decent living just selling furniture and raw resources on the bazaar. So a long time ago, like October long ago, I just quit making houses and harvesters for anyone outside of my guild. There was one really bad experience with a custom rush job for a german girl, and I said, "That's it. No more orders. No more structures." I decided it was not worth paying money for the frustration of dealing with these people. Kept some reasonably well stocked vendors of furniture, and plants, lamps, and later art, but no deeds.

Eventually, my guildmates start giving me flak about being a master architect and not selling any deeds. Presure is placed upon me to start selling again, since a good mall NEEDS a deeds vendor. I admit, this is true. So several of my mates are out of town on vacation, so I figure this would be a good weekend to put the new deeds vendor back up an surprise them. I get the vendor up, throw on some personals, and a sampling of houses up, while the factory cranks out a pile of walls for tomorrow.

Qaeronn, my armorsmith, gets on and cheers me on for selling deeds again, then we start talking about which of my characters I oughta keep, and people seem to like "Ohi: The Angry Architect."

Imagedump screen of my conversation with Qaeronn

"Dare me to quit!" is sort of becoming our groups unoffical battlecry.
Moving on.

So, Qaeronn just got done telling me that "all the annoying players have left already"...
Interesting thought.
He logs out, I log out.
I make some lunch, get some laundry done, etc. Get back in, start a run of OMU's, and head back to the mall to put some more furniture up. I've only been in about five minutes when I hear the clack, clack, clack of a customer in the mall. Being a friendly merchant, even if I'm an angry architect, I try to be helpful.

Imagedump screen of my conversation with my customer. Customer's name removed.

For the record, I was selling the house for 100k. I don't know what the market rate is for structures, but I'm still selling steel for 3cpu or better on the bazzar, so in my book, that was under market, since I lowered the value of my materials by putting labor into them. Whatever. Not my point. I could have sold it for 50k and she would've said the same thing, I'm sure.

*sigh* Less than 24 hours with a deeds vendor, and I'm already getting flak from players that don't know what they're talking about again. Geez.

...and my guildies wonder why I'm an angry architect.

Yeah, I think we've all run across a crowd of people that complain about structure pricing. They find a large house for sale, one time, on someone's vendor for 50k and expect everyone to sell at the same rate

I had a similar problem with a customer. You know the deal, they complain about prices. After roaming around cnet, same guy comes back to buy 5 heavy mineral harvs. About a week later, I dropped all my prices by 30-40k. Guy comes back, looks at the vendors, sees the new prices, and complains again. More or less he was demmanding a refund for the "extra" money he spent a week earlier.

Prices too high - complaints.
Prices lowered - complaints.

Even further... If our prices are too high our customers complain and if our prices are too low then our peers complain.

I think it comes down to simple ignorance. If people don't understand what's involved in making xxx item, they complain. Once they find out what is involved, they tend to change their tune.

Ok. New customer.

I get a message telling me I've sold a small house for 16K.
I stupid, or honest, same difference, and I felt like decorating a house, so I sent them a mail telling them that I would refund the difference. Mistake.

It's like Trooper Clerks in here.

Oh, in my reply, I'm not trying to be rude using the simple sentences, though it sounds a little short.
I'm pretty sure they're German, and I've learned that my non-english speaking customers prefer shorter, simpler sentances.

(One more thing. I didn't just banktip the first time because after several rounds of bugs, I don't trust it to actually tell the other player they got the money. I tested it with a buddy to make sure it was at least working when I sent it.)

The only thing I can figure is maybe they added 9k or so to the maintence pool.
Still, on the whole baffling.

I hope I don't have anymore to add to this saga.

Oh. If any crafter hasn't read Acts of Gord You really oughta do so.
I probably should give it it's own thread.

You ought to add your saga to this thread over on the merchant boards:

Gord's site is great stuff.

I'd love to roleplay as Gord. Sometimes, wouldn't we all?

My suggestion is this -DON'T givepersonal quotes-DIRECT them to your vendor only. If you don't have the item on the vendor - tell them you'll be put one there asap. If they want a large order - get 50% down as a commitment.

It's happend to me a few times - "oh how much for this - and I'll get back to you" - "oh - I can get it cheaper". It's much like we do (IRL) In Real Life when we go car shopping - we get a quote from the dealers in oder to get a lower price from other dealers.

I think I've read most of the "annoying customer threads." Smuggler has a LONG one as well, and so did Image Designer as I recall. I'll see if I can't dig those up and if I can, I'll post em up here.

I suppose I should add it to the Sarlacc pit thread, that's a good idea.

I think I'm gonna at least introduce them to Gord.

I'm trying to talk Qaeronn in to naming his alt Gord. Course, if I ever get the chance to rename Ohi, that's what I'm going for myself.

I hadn't heard of Gord till last night, and as a result I spent the rest of my evening going through the stories there. I'm not sure of whether I wanted to laugh at how stupid people can be, or cry at how stupid people can be, but I did come away from there with one crystal clear idea.

SWG seems to have an inordinate amount of people who have been through Gord's store...
