Thread: Crafting Missions

Hey all,

This is my idea to avoid "grinding." The addition of 'practice' was helpful but this is even better. When you go to a mission terminal, there would be three categories: deliver, destroy and craft. A crafting mission would give you a reason to create an item and a financial reason to do so. It would be much slower than "grinding" but would be more fulfulling to those who dont want to be power gaming grinders. It would be an easy change for the devs to implement. It is similar to a delivery mission but instead of pickign up a stupid data disk, you would just craft it. A list of recipients and a formula of like 3 credits per resource would do it...

What do you all think?

FWIW, Dark Age of Camelot does have this, and its kinda works. They cap the crafter level of the player who can accept a mission, so that at some point you HAVE to grind or sell to players, but it is at a point where you MAY be able to sell some of your stuff. The other nice thing is that there is enough money that you can level without going broke. For most crafters, though the limit is just high enough to get you into the really expensive stuff that isn't quite good enough for people to want to buy. (I was an 1146 Armor Crafter, so I did do a *LOT* of crafting in DAoC).

If they did this for the Artisan levels and perhaps N xp in the elite classes, it might help some of the "grind", without distorting the economy. And perhaps have the job pay ~5cr / resource, so that it behooves the crafter to do his own mining, and only buy when it is important, or hard to find.

At the moment I am at Tyrena - Corellia, trying to work my way through the Architect tree. What I want to know is are there any better paying crafting missions, and if not why not?

I currently take 2 crafting missions paying between 1450cr and 1500cr. After paying for the shuttle ticket to and from Vreni Island, I end up with about 2500cr on average.

However, as Architect chews through a hell of alot of ore, I have to spend 6 - 8 hours doing these repetitive little missions (with 8-9 minute shuttle waits both directions) so I can afford to get enough ore to MAYBE reach one level.

There has to be higher paying Crafting missions as it would help all the Elite Crafting professions, and would flow through to Merchants, Miners, Surveyors and any other people who rely on selling resources.

Some crafting missions that required me to kick in half or even all the resources would be acceptable as long as they payed well. I am currently buying bulk ore and metals at between 20000cr and 60000cr.

Any suggestions from other Crafters?

Hi, I'm new. I am a novice artisan, and I have a question.

Even though I am gaining skills in the artisan skill tree, the available missions all remain at the same level.

Is this normal?

Did you know that missions from the artisan terminals scale their difficulty based on your combat level?

How does this make any sense?

Yes. I doubt craftin missions can go any higher than what you can do at novice, but if they do, you would need combat skills to get them :/

that is the most backwards way of thinking i've ever heard of.

this game's reputation is well earned.

Well, I mean, the game is so screwed on many points it's literally turned backwards, and if you then yourself think backwards, backwards would be forward, and right. Do you follow what I mean?

this is true. I am really angry that i've spent any money on this game at all.

I come to find out that not only am I unable to produce ANYTHING worth buying until I gain a lot more skills.

Now I learn, that we can't make money with our PROFESSION, so they give us missions, but THEY ARE BASED ON COMBAT SKILLS????????

So leveling in a crafting profession is ALL money out, and no money in. How is this possible?

How does ANYONE put up with this?

Not only do they render you useless, but they make NO EFFORT to help you become anything else.

This is ABSURD.

I think there might be so mething wrong. The mission says to go see an NPC to get the scematics and parts, yet when I go to the NPC and converse all he/she says is:

"[Insert mood] I got my item and you got your reward". Thats all that happens. I don't get any message of a scematic being put into my datapad, nor do i get any credits or components. The same thing happens when I try to deliver to some NPCs. They don't accept the item. Is somewthing wrong?
