This week, our Friday Featureexplores the wonders of the half round mustard yellow couch. This furniture schematic is not understood by many.Few realize that this furniturecan bequite therapeutic. Staring at the ugly yellow couch for prolonged periods of time makes one appreciate life and other furniture much more readily. But alas, keep a Master Doctor close by, as you will need to be healed from a dizzy blow after such a long exposure to the couches powers.

Next week: Personal Harvesters, are they really that personal?

Have a great weekend!

So I'm just kidding around, but I thought it might be fun to add...fun to the architect forum.

The Big Yellow Couch - A story of Architects.

It's been quite some time since I've written about the Big Yellow Couch, but, here goes.

Gather around the campfire kids.

The BYC is an interesting piece of furniture because of the insight that it allows us, presumably, into the design process of the furniture in the first place.

Back in the early days, there was a problem (that still occasionaly arrises) with some of the cloth or glass textures on furniture not being clickable. The sofa chairs are a good example. Now, we know that if you can't click on the furniture for some reason, if you can get to the metallic base of the furniture you can then get the full radial menu. The problem with the yellow couches was that they had no visible base. Eventually we learned about the /pickup command, but this was a signifigant problem for a little while.

Much to my surprise, I dropped a yellow couch in a medium tat, and lo and behold, there in the sunken living room was the missing yellow couch white metal base. The model had been sunken about 5-10 pixels down into the bounding box of the mesh so that when you placed it on a flat surface you didn't see the base, as it was sunk INTO the floor. Naturally, being bright eyed and full of enthusiasim I instantly /bugged it so that the art could be brought up withing the bounding box and the art could sit properly on the floor. Months go by. No response on the forums from the Devs about my find, no response whenever I /bugged it. *shrug* More months go by.

Eventually, we get the ability to raise and lower furniture.

The first thing I do is go and raise up my couches 10 pixels so that the base now properly sits on the floor. Perfect! Or so I think until I try to sit in it. My fishy butt now sinks well INTO the art. AH! I realise. That is why it was sunken! It came from the art department too tall for the animations to sync up, so rather than shorten the height of the model, they sunk it into the floor as a quick fix.

The quick fix endures. As do Architects. Somehow.

Carry on my noble bretheren.

I hope this gives you some insight into your furniture, and it's origninal design process.

It's certainly a good story to bore your friends with while you sit about the house and look at your demolitionist belts, and master cabinet that is now loot.

Maybe if we offer to pay and extra 30 bucks we can get an expansion pack like. We could get the "Arhitect planet." Then maybe these issues will be adressed.

By they way, does anyone here keep the BYC in stock? Has anyone sold it? No one has ever asked me for it, so I wonder if ANYONE likes it.

Who's old?.......back in my day we used to walk to the mission terminal uphill, without mounts or swoops.....both ways.

I sell some BYC from time to time. Those half-round glass table schematic drops look decent next to the couches. Also, a lot of people put them in cantinas in the corners.

The yellow couch to me is a statement it says 'I like comfort I dont like sharp edges and I shop at IKEA' The little bumps on the back of the seat demonstrate a certain cheeky little attitude to the user demonstrating an inconsequential air of so sit on me I dont care..

The color is interestingly subtle yet striking. The only regret I have is that you cannot lounge on these sofas or other furniture come to that.. also you cant check the back of the seat to locate those credits that slipped out of your pockets earlier or that pistol that keeps firing everytime you jump onto the couch.

My view is that the mustard yellow couch is THE definitive piece of furntiure available to the Architect.

When I sit on that couch I feel safe.. unlike the kitchen chairs which are hideous and that divan whose colors seemed to have come out of the 70's which are quoted as the time when people had taste it was just that their taste was .... well you can guess..!!

Anyway that ends my critique of the Yellow couch..

I rename mine with some variation of Comfy Couch. That and the sofa chair are the most comfortable looking furniture pieces. What's up with SOE making lots of furniture pieces that look as comfortable as Modern Art.

It could be worse, we couold be stuck with spike-seat chairs, or burned tables...

Could be worse. Could be the purple divan. Looks like hell no matter what you put it in, and it matches none of the other furniture.

ugly yellow couch can at least go with the round clear top table and the ugly yellow cafe chairs. You could do a room mix between ugly 70s yellow furniture and the oil-smudged orange furniture.

It would look like a Salvation Army thrift store threw up in a Union 76 gas station.
