Can anyone explain to me how the Architect's experience works?

I am aspiring to become an Architect on one of the more recently created servers and I am wondering how it works. I dont have a PA behind me, busy gathering resources for me to use so I think it is important I work out exactly how the system works and what would be best for me.

Seeing as you require such a heavy load of experience to gain in skills, and each item requires such a huge amount of resources, does that mean that each house is worth alot more experience?

What i mean is.. Will I be receiving thousands of experience for each house I produce? Or is it very much the same system as it was in Novice Artisan? Do I get a small (ie. 40 experience or something simuliar) for each component I create, and then a larger amount for each house? Or is it just the same system as with Artisan, and hence takes an incredible amount of time to raise each skill level?

It is very hard for me to describe my questions, because I have not yet reached Novice Architect and so I dont know how the system works. The thing is, I dont want to invest time getting the 33K exp it takes to begin the profession, only to find it really isnt viable without other people strip mining the planet for me.

Thanks for your help,

The only rule you have to know, it s the same for all profession, is :

1 ressource = 2 xp

A structural module for example is 200 ore and 50 metal -> 500 structure XP

Thanks for the response. So it should be possible for me to play as an Architect even on my own.

Thanks again for the info.

On your own? No, you'll need customers. =)

All kidding aside, yes, you CAN do it alone, just don't allow yourself to get frustrated as you see other Architects flying by you. I've gotten used to it. I'm doing well, but I know there's some Masters already... amazing work!

You get a LOT of XP for crafting a home. A small home, for example, uses 10 structure modules (about 450 resources each), a light power core (another 200 or so), a small storage unit (nother 150 or so), and then a some more ore. A total of about 3,388 resources. That's a fair amount of XP.

That being said, Architect also has the highest XP requirements of any crafting class I believe too. The first tier of any part of the Architect tree is 55,000, the second 77,000. So while you may get 6,000 XP to craft a home, you'll need to make 10 just to hit your first "level". It can be a very frustrating class if you don't have patience.

I like to think of the Architect class as a little bit MMORPG, a little bit SimCity, as a lot of your success will rely on your ability to obtain resources. If you can't manage resources effectively, or don't have the time to, you'll find it very difficult.

If my friends asked me, I'd say this class definitely wasn't created with the casual 5-10 hour a week person in mind. With all the resource changes, sometimes you can spend the first 1.5 hours of gametime just gathering your resources from all your harvesters.

Ok, the 2:1 Experience to Resources Ratio may have been in effect before the patch this weekend. However, last night I recieved roughly 1500 xp for building a small house.

C'mon Devs! Are you telling me that I'm only suppose to get less than 1/2 of an xp point per resource I use! I mean, I know the muzzle exploit (4:1, xp:res) is ridiculous (anyone who has no life and can stare at a screen and repeat the same thing over and over again can reach Nov. Arch. in a day; plenty have), and is probably one of the reasons Devs decided to make this move, but why should the Architect pay with this?

I mean, as a NoviceArchitect, small houses are the only real way I can make enough money to pay for my harvesters. This living is meager at that. The economic rift is so bad in the game, those who have the money to pay for a house want a medium or large, while everyone else can't afford a small house!

How am I supposed to make it as an Independant Architect, with no level one skills, and having to compete against those who were able to obtain their skill with MUCH LESS effort than is required now?

Figure that with the 12 components required to build the house, along with the 1500xp for building the home, total xp is around 3000, if that.

19 Houses per 1st Lvl Skill!!! Not taking into account failures, for any of the components.

Yes, these are demanding standard.

I believe it will have the effect of gutting the Architect profession of every player aside from those who have already attained Master or Near Master Skill Levels.

Good Luck to you all, and keep digging! (even if you can only do it half as often as you used to, and it makes you twice as tired) Don't let 'em get you down!!!
