Thread: Large House failures (now from personal experience... *sigh*)
Ok, I'm going to whine for a minute...
I got the resources together to finish 3 orders... took a while to get together, but essentially I was just going to be making 3 large houses, and I had a side project of a solar gen to get done... I stockpiled resources to reduce my crit failures, I made a struct mod schematic and experimented on it until its durability was actually over 60%.
Really quick, I'm going to add in the fact that, I am a Master Artisan, and a Master Architect. I created a weapon & droid crafting kit that had 96% effectiveness (and the durability was over 50%), using that created my structure crafting tool which has 97% effectiveness (and durability of about 48%), and using that, I made my structure crafting station, using all optional components and of pretty good quality in the master artisan required items and the droid compartments (I'm told... I can't really guarantee their quality like I can my own items). I don't think most of this matters, but I get the best I possibly can just in case.
Now that that background is out of the way, back to the pain.
So I had created this struct mod schematic.. then I created a wall schematic with it, again got its stats up pretty high (the materials I happened to have stockpiled were actually very good for the needed stats). I pumped out the 300 struct mods and converted them into 30 walls, all in the factory (which itself, of course, is pretty high quality, though I made it a little earlier in my career so not as good as it could be) because failing a wall mod is somewhat painful.
I finally get all the walls done, and take everything back to my shop... I'd done the 3 core power units while waiting for all those pieces to finish (took a while, since I experimented on them, their complexity was pretty high).
So I have someone wanting a solar gen.. figure I'll get one together for him... I made a generator turbine, great... made another one, failed... ouch, not the worst loss I could have, but still a little painful... the third attempt, I made it... went to make the manufacturing mechanism (requires a generator turbine), and failed it.. *sigh* Ok, that hurt a little more, that is what contributes fully half the cost of the solar generator, which for me was a loss of 12-13k in equivalent credits.
So I make another turbine, and try to make another manufacturing mechanism.. and I crit fail AGAIN! *sigh* I should have taken this as a sign and stopped.. well, I tried another turbine, then mechanism, succeeded on those, and succeeded on the solar gen combine. *whew*
I hoped I'd gotten my bad luck out of the way, but just to be sure I made a chair, and that worked...
So I got the 10 walls, power unit, storage mods, and resources together for the large house, clicked assemble... and it failed! Ok, now THAT really hurt. That put a serious dent in things.
Well, thinking I HAD to have gotten all of my bad luck out of the way, I made a couple more chair and plants... then tried another large house combine... and you know.. I actually failed AGAIN! OMG!
I KNEW I should stop, but I couldn't imagine POSSIBLY having luck this bad.. I ran around, did other things trying to psych out the random number generator, and tried one more time... and again, I FAILED!
In 30 minutes, I basically just destroyed my entire store of resources for absolutely nothing. I did get the sale of a solar gen out of it, but... that hardly makes up for it.
I realize it is part of the risk, but as a Master Architect and Artisan who went far out of my way to have high quality tools and parts, I still within 30 minutes crit fail on 3 large houses, 2 manufacturing mechanisms, and a generator turbine... within that time, I did a total of 10 combines, 6 of which failed (and they weren't little failures
)
My head hurts from banging it repeatedly against the wall. My throat hurts from screaming (you might have heard me last night... no matter where you are
). That was just absolutely devastating to my business, and I believe a bit extreme. Sure, its supposed to be POSSIBLE, but knowing that it hardly ever happens doesn't make it feel much better when it actually DOES happen, to YOU. The first failure, I was ready to roll with, it was a painful moment seeing the crit failure message, but I knew it was a risk, and accepted it... the second, that was more like a solid punch in the kidney... the third, well, that was a bit more like having my head lopped off with a wooden spoon.
*sigh*
Ok, I'm done complaining now... I needed to vent.
Oh, by the way.. did I mention AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Probably just very very very bad luck.
After all there aren't really that many bugs in SWG, especially ones that might hurt you so bad.
There aren't, are there?
I think we should just trust the developers on this one. ![]()
I feel for ya man ... I really do. Personally I think the critical system needs to be looked at badly. A master crafter of any type should have a very very low chance of failure. Like 1% not the 10% or so they have in, because it is always the big jobs that fail. I never fail on a plant, just something that requires more than 10k resources.
