Thread: New architect resource website
Greetings!
Right now I am currently building an offshoot to my city's website, containing images, resource lists, and blueprints for architect creations. Right now there are only pictures of almost all the furniture (except for master and a few pieces missing here and there), plus two external pictures and ablueprint for the Tatooine Medium House.
I want to keep the site somewhat simple. I'm also going to keep the resource lists printer friendly (no images, all of one house type on a single page, etc), as I like keeping a hard copy on my desk.
Within this week I hope to get a good number of blueprints done and start on the resource lists.

Actually, my price is 4 credits per unit as a base, then factor in time (more peices to a single object = more time + more chance of critical failure = higher price).
Off this I make a decent profit. I'm not RICH, but I don't feel as I'm undercutting the market OR losing profits.
I've made some changes and updates to the website.
Right now, this is what the website contains
- Images for almost all furniture I - IV.
- Blueprints and images for :
- Small Tatooine House, Style One
- Small Tatooine House, Style Two
- Small Generic House, Style One
- Small generic House, Style Two
- Medium Tatooine house
- Large Tatooine House
I don't gather my own hide, I buy it off the bazaar and all I have to say is that all your furniture that requires hides is priced too low. For instance, The Divan I think you listed it at 600cr, I routinely sell this at 1850 credits, I got this price from the bazaar, and its not the highest but an average of all prices. I routinely sell the large couch for 3000cr and it sells fast at that price. The fancy S love seat you have it listed for 1400 creds, and I sell it fast for 3500 creds. I don't make many of those because thats a lot of hides to blow. As a rule of thumb I generally price my hide furniture at 10 creds a unit, and I haven't had a problem selling it thus far. I don't think I'm ripping people off, look at the weapons smith that sells their items at more than 100 creds a unit. For all of my furniture, every few days I look at everything on the bazaar and adjust my prices accordingly.
The "normal" asking price??? What exactly is that? Normal according to who?
Allow me to provide an analogy.
McDonald's buys their buns at 10 cents a piece and their burgers at 12 cents a piece.
Burger King buys their buns at 40 cents a piece and their burgers at 25 cents a piece.
Why, exactly, do you think McDonald's should sell for the same price? To make sure Burger King can stay in business? Hell no, McDonald's will undercut them and steal all their business away, that's called smart business.
Of course, this isn't a great example, as we all know they pay about the same, it's just a hypothetical. But it's literal in the above case of paying for hides vs. getting your own.
If you buy your hides and 10 credits a piece, and I get my hides on my own, it's not MY responsibility to jack up my prices to make sure YOU do ok. You're my competition, not my partner.
---------------
That being said, I charge somewhere between what the above folks do. I haven't paid for a hide in 4 weeks, but I do still keep them up at acompetitive "per hide" rate, because I may not always get them for free, and a sudden spike in pricing could scare my customers.
My point is more that no Architect is bound to YOUR costs, they are bound to THEIR cost. If it's free, don't be surprised if his/her price is lower than yours. The argument that Architect X should have to sell his hides at 8 creds per because that's what YOU pay doesn't make much sense to me. Sorry.
In a pre-emptive strike to avoid some flaming, and just cause some will be curious...
My price for the Couch (the curved one) is 2700. So I'm not exactly a "bottom dweller" either, I'm just slighty more economical than some of you.
I'm sorry, I guess I got sucked into why do people sell items for so low. Of course, we could still all make a profit if we sold everything at 3creds per unit, just like most sell small houses. The same holds true for weaponsmiths they could still survive if they made everything at 3creds per unit. The point I was trying to make was that he could be making alot more money if he priced his stuff higher and still retain business. I mean as it stands we should be trying to make as much as we can from each purchase because our customers only buy a particular item once, since it doesn't decay. Weaponsmiths charge for as much as they can why do architects not do this? I mean if people can buy a gun that costs 40k and will wear out in a month, they do have the money to spend much more no a house. It kinda boggles my mind, that people will buy a house for 10k and then go off and spend 20 to 30k to fully furnish it. So really its not that the people who buy houses don't have the money, its that the architects feel they have to seriously fight each other for the sale.
