Thread: Ok, maybe my math is wrong here...

I made schematics as well. I made 100 ore harvesters when I got 2 Amazings in the same experimentation. same with walls, generators, small structures...you name it. Fact still remains that if you allow a 10% margin of error you will get, even at Master and using high end constuction tools & components, a 1 in 4 chance of Critical Failing every single time you attempt to do something. And in Harvesters, you have to do at least 4 things (assemble and 3 stages of experimentaion, minimal). Same goes for other professions as well, but the total amount of resources at stake is litterally a hundred times more than, say, a weaponsmith making Advanced Rifle Barrels or even a T21 rifle.

"I have a 47.4 workbench and a 29.3 tool and plus 2 on a pair of pants."

Wow, those are really high values. I've used 994 conductivity copper with high OQ and gotten the results up to 99%+ and still only came out 14.73 with all greats on experimentation. How did you get to 29.3 on a crafting tool?

Dunno, I found it on a Vendor on Talus on Corbantis & bought it. I also have a 28.1 weapons crafting tool from the same guy.

I find that if you only spend a couple exp points at a time, you're much more likely to succeed in getting max experimentation values. Even if the red risk bar doesn't show, the more points you use the more chance you have of getting a failure or low-end success. I tend to get nothing but greats and amazings if I just go 2 points at a time and I can usually get to 13BER and have 2 points left over to put into storage.

More experimentation attempts increases complexity of course so if you're making a schematic you might not want to do this, but few architects can afford to make schematics of heavy harvesters.

There are several things I noticed here.

1) While it MAY be possible to get higher, my understanding was that the cap on crafting stations was a 45 functionaliy rating. As for the tool, I know for a fact that this is capped at 15.

2) OQ has nothing to do with experimentation on a harvester. For experimentation on effectiveness(extraction rate), the important stats are UT, SR & HR. Also, you stated that you only considered the stats on the final combine, not on the subcomponents. It is important to make sure that your mining unit is as high as possible as well, and that your mining units are all post-patch. The other subcomponents do not matter.

3) While it may be safe to assume so, you did not specifically mention that you were a master arch, which can have the biggest effect on critical failure rate.

All that said, this is a common problem for architects. I too have started using factory schematics instead of doing the final combines myself, as the odds of turning out a less-than-optimal product have been exponentially increased with the addition of experimentation on the final combine. Giving up one harvester is well worth it to be assured that my next 20+ will be perfect.

1)I play Corbantis, I am near Kaadara, your welcome to come see.

2) I get 13's everytime I don't crit on harvesters when I use 971 Toughness Antinite steel on assembly, I don't get that consistency using 751 Toughness steel in the same fashion. I make really good Heavies, as long as I don't crit on assembly or final experimentation. Doesn't have to be amazing, and I can even get a 12BER on Moderates.

3) My apologies, but I am a Master Architect.

I don't know how I am going to hoard the materials to factory make heavies, but your correct. The only way to stay alive now is to make harvesters in a factory. For small fry like myself ( I use lots from 3 ) this means I will get to make things every...oh, say every three months? Yay. No, I mean that, yay ( can anyone hear my enthusiasim?)

You make me cry.

I might make a character just to come out to your place and see this stuff.

999 Conductivity copper on Lowca gives you a 14.97 tool. As for stations, the best possible on Lowca with some damned fine materials is about 42.94+ -> impossible to beat out that 43, but 45 sounds like the max.

Perhaps there is a trick we are missing. . . .

Making heavies in a factory is not as difficult as it sounds, because the walls, which make up the bulk of the resources used, do not need to have the same serial #, or be made of the same materials even. This is an exception to the norm for schematics. I use only my own lots, with the exception of my factory(which has become a problem since the items from a factory have started displaying the OWNER the factory as the creator, but that anotherthread), and don't have too much trouble making factory runs of heavies.

Ok, I have just been informed by a guildie that I am appearently a lying SOB.

The workbench is actually 40.5

That is very good news (walls not requiring matching serial #s). Well, maybe only news to me. Making factory runs of walls is killing me as getting enough of the same ore to do a structure module schematic, then turn around to do the wall schematic, was getting very wasteful if I don't have 200k of the same ore lying around. Thanks!

.... also I can churn out a whole wall from ore manually in less than a minute or so (ok 1 minute 15 seconds). Factory takes about 20+ minutes per wall.... bleh.

Hhhmmm, just read the thread for Patch notes on this forum. I can live with crit fails on experimentation if they throw us a bone on assembly. That would reduce thepercentage to 42% (or thereabouts). I guess I'll just horde materials & see if the patch helps, or until I can do factory runs on heavies.

I wasattempting to put together Heavy Mineral Harvesters last night. I made one, came out ok, crit failed on assembly on the next 2 losing everything, crit failed experimentation on next 2 after that resuulting in a heavy with a BER of 9. I am a Mon Cal, I get a theoretical bonus of 15% (according to the character creation guide). I have a 47.4 workbench and a 29.3 tool and plus 2 on a pair of pants. All materials over 900 OQ & 900+ toughness in final assembly (note, I am not talking component creation, just final assembly).

I was distraught, to say the least. Then, out of sheer pigheadinness, I tried to make 50 torches using pre-made components, and made 39 after all the CF's. This would indicate, but not definitivly prove, a 22% failure rate at 91.7% attributes and +2 to skills (god help any struggling arch's, it is worse if you have less value added). On creation of a Heavy Machine, I use4 attempts at either assembly or experimentation, resulting in a whopping 88% probability of critical failure somewhere in the creation process (it's actually higher, due to probable averages, but that math makes my head hurt).

I will leave the whining to others who have posted on this issue And I know my math is flawed somewhere ( it just doesn't "feel" right), but the fact remains there is a major glitch somewhere. Is this being addressed, or looked at? Or is this the way things are to be from this point forward? Because as it stands now this is either a profession breaking bug or a stealth nerf of staggering proportion.
