Thread: Have we yet to see the resource boom bottom out?

I'd be interested to see any feedback from fellow architects and resource gathers as to whether they have seen the demand for resources (and I guess by implication, the demand for harvestors) dropping, remaining static, etc.

Having a trawl through the various trade boards, I have noticed a very definite trend in resource auctions going either without bids, with very reduced numbers of bids, or with very low pricing for good high quality resources. There did seem to be a definite bump when Patch 6 got released - especially with high quality flora resources and some metals, but over all the trend seems to beheading down.

I have also been noticing a very definite drop-off in harvestor sales, and while they are not at the levels where I'd say "its time to drop architect", the feedback I have been getting is that there are not to many new big resource collectors around, no new ones starting up and even some of the existing ones retiring and selling up (mainly owing to the resource crash). Other feedback I have had (on Valcyn at least) is that the coming end to the holo-grind is meaning less and less people are after large amounts of resources and that the remaining resource buyers are being very selective and picky about what they want - especially the WS & AS folks.

So does the end of the holo-grind mean an end to the resource boom? Thoughts and comments?

I thinktheimpendingend and current reduction of the holo-grinders will cause an expected decline in the need for bulk resources (I'm talking 100k and above unit lots). But I think that there will still be a reasonable demand for the non-uber resources that artisans and architects use to grind up in their respective trees. I have noticed a steady decline in the requests/purchases of uber resources (especially mineral types). But I never leveraged my business on resource sales alone, so I guess it just depends on how diversified you business is to see the overall effect.

I think if certain resources became rare (by not spawning for awhile, or spawned with low-end stats), some of the resource market would recover. Unfortunately, if this did happen, inflation could affect prices across all crafting professions, as resources became more expensive to acquire.

It may force many small shops to close or mergeinto guilds or other large groups to maintainviability.I think as architects, it's best to stay diversified in your business to minimize the effect.

It will definitely be interesting to see if this trend continues and for how long.

I've also been a lottle concerned about this, and yes there's a huge drop-off in Harvester sales. I know I'm going to upset some people by even mentioning this, but I do think there ought to be decay attached to structures. The decaydamage could be patched with single-use repair kits (usable by anyone, buildable by architects) at least this gives us renewable income, and keeps the resource market flowing.

WHEN are they going to fix the well known full-repair bug on vehicles !!? This would mean people would actually start buying vehicles again, and again more reources flow through the market.

Having said that, I imagine the Space Expansion will boost the resource market too - I can only imagine how much steel it'll take to build a Corvette

I know what you mean. To me resource sales are a small part of my business (very small as I tend to use everything myself or sell cheap to residents and fellow PA members). It was more a general observation than anything else.

I agree that there will always be a market for good quality resources to crafters, but the days of selling 100k of this, and a 100k of that I think about over for most. Just my humble opinion.

I'm not sure about decaying harvestors. We'd be penalizing ourselves in the process of generating more demand for the harvies we make. It's kind of a /catch22 situation, unless they give some kind of bonus to architects that slows decay (similar to how merchants can get up 20% reduced maintanence fees).

I totally agree with you on the vehicle fix bug. Not only have I stopped making vehicles cuz of this, but its getting a bit lame to see all those burning vehicles sitting outside starports. Talk about creating a new flavor of lag in cities!

I can't even fathom the resource costs for space vehicles. Especially for those larger than single-person fighters.

I agree, bulk sales of resources will continue to decrease. I'm even debating on breaking down my 50k unit lots into smaller lots just to stimulate some kind of interest. But oh well, if no one buys, I'll probably just end up using it later on something else
