I'm about to purchase a larger harvester for collecting Rad. In your expert opinions........

Would I be better off to buy a mineral harvester or should I go for a fusion generator?

What is an average (fair) price for a fusion gen?

Thanks,

Sho

Pricing will vary by server.

Fusion is cheaper to run than mineral, and gets +1 BER.

BUT, the only thing it can harvest is Radioactive power.

Minerals will harvest Rad power, or any other mineral. So you could run the mineral when there is no RAD to harvest, but the fusion would be sitting idle.

Long term you're better off with a fusion gen. Its cheaper to run and you get more output.

The heavy mineral harvester would give you more flexibility but at the cost of being less efficient when you put it on radioactives.

If you plan on running much of a mining operation for much time then I'd say go with a fusion. If you're not sure how much mining you're really going to do or if you know its a fairly limited amount just on the side or if money is a big concern then you might want to buy a mineral for now and get a fusion later.

Prices vary a lot from server to server. So there is no "fair" price to quote. Depending on the cost of raw materials you're probably looking at something in the 100-200k range.

You should absolutely go with a fusion generator - it costs much less to operate (because you don't need to feed it power) and it can get BER14 (heavy minerals only can get to BER13).

As far as pricing goes, it varies from server to server and architect to architect - there is NO "universal price list". If you put up a "WTB: fusion generator" in your galaxy trade forum then you should get some responses.

A Fusion Power Generator.

First off, A Fusion Power Generator requires only maintenance. A harvester requires both power and maintenance.

Second. A Fusion Power Generatorhas a higher BER (Base Extration)BER 14. A harvesters highest rating isBER13.

Generally, (very generally) a Fusion isn't that much more expensive than an extractor.

Thanks all....It will be used only for gathering Rad, so I think the Fusion will be the better choice.
