Thread: Proposal: Dang customers keep wandering into our forum.

I think we need either:
A) A smackdown sticky. Something along the lines of "GO TO YOUR FREAKING TRADE FORUMS!" With a more plesant explanation of why this is better for everyone involved in the post body.
B) An Architect list by Galaxy. Kwee set something like this up for the Image Designers with fairly good success. Keeping it current seems to be a problem though. I think she's currently planning on having volunteers break it down by galaxy. Could be a pain, but if we had something like that set up, we could just paste the appropriate galaxy's architects and herd em back out the door. Might even get some sales. Dunno.

I say we just make sure they're not on our server, then offer to fill the order.

Something along the lines of what ZenDragon, Pawlin and others have used in the past:
'This is not a trade forum, 95 percent of the active members of this forum are not in your Galaxy, you would have more success taking this to the Trade Forum for your Galaxy which is specifically set up for this kind of enquiry. Here you will find Architects who are actually able to assist you rather than the majority of us on this Architect Profession Forum who cannot help you even if we wanted to'

Unfortunately, a large number of people reading these forums don't have the first clue about how to participate in an on-line community. We have lots of folks who claim to be interested in becoming architects who don't bother reading the FAQ to even get a context. We could try having a "USE YOUR GALAXY TRADE FORUM" post stickied at the top of the forum, but I'm not sure that it would help a lot. People either don't read those or they decide that it doesn't apply to them.
In another forum I had good luck having a "CLUES FOR THE CLUELESS" post stickied at the top of the forum. It was eye-catching and, given people's desire to see rants and putdowns, really did get read.
In general, what I've been doing here with some success is:
- porting out that they would have better luck on their trade forum
- one starring them
- doing the "report to moderator" thing to get it locked / moved / deleted
So some combination of things might help.
I can't imagine trying to keep a list of architects on the servers up to date. Plus, as evidenced by some of the recent posts about "wanting to get the best price on ....", I suspect that having the list would cause people to get ingame email spam inviting them to low-bid a deal. No thanks.

They're large, fluffy, and easily deflect misdirected posts.

Personally, I've found that marshmellows work better if you let them get, you know, stale, like, three weeks worth of stale, and then fire them from a cannon.
No, not the marshmellows silly, they'd melt! Fire the idiotposter out of the cannon after three weeks! The bag of marshmellowswas just to torture the prisoner with, by placingthemjust out of reach the entire time....
