WE've had a couple instances lately where people post off topic posts and then it ends up in an argument between the original poster and various architects here. We've also had a couple people make a point of saying we could be less hostile to people who come here.
Now I don't think these people are really on the mark arguing that we're all flaming and hostile, etc or that we should be welcoming of WTB or other off topic posts. But it takes 2 sides to argue and we don't need 5 people to jump on any such posts. And making jokes at their expense really doesn't help either.
Now I know I'm not innocent of adding to this stuff myself. I don't like off topic posts much either.
What I think we SHOULD do is post one simple reply to any off topic posts and then just leave it. No further debate, no additional responses, no running jokes, just 1 reply and everyone walk away.
HOw about thisresponse for WTB/WTS posts and price checks:
Hello, please post your want to buy/sellad or price check in your servers trade forum if you have not done so already. Most of the people in this forum are not on your server so we would not be able to assist you. The forum moderators have said specifically that such posts are off topic for profession forums.
If you hare having difficulty finding an architect on yoru server, you may wish to check this list of architects : http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=architect&message.id=63315
Thanks.
I've tried to sugar coat it some. As they say - you catch more flies with honey.
I purposefully said "most of the people" rather than the more technical "95% of us" because for some reason people seem to want to argue with that % value. I'm not sure why. I think they find it insulting to hear that such a large majority of us really don't have any need to see what they're posting and/or are just math challenged. /shrug
Optionally you can also hit the report abuse link and tell the mods that its an off topic post.
If we leave such off topic posts to 1 reply like the above and then ignore the thread afterwards then we won't get so many debates on the topic.

Good plan.
And the moderators *do* seem to respond to some of the trade posts here, so the "report" link does work.

Sounds a fine idea to me Pawlin, we can at least give it a go, but I must say, it is hard not to respond sometimes when you get flamed for merely directing people to where they need to be
Locs/Collett, the main problem with your idea is that we already know that not everybody reads the stickies, so we will continue to get WTB posts even if we put something up there, look at the number of posters we are directing to the FAQ still.
