Thread: Why I'm not doing Architect Any Longer...
I think one of the reasons is in your post. Two other Master Architects in your PA quit the profession? Thats a lot of Architects running arround. Maybe your server is top heavy in Architects?
Lowca is like that. I see many other architects running around selling their wares for LOW prices and it undercuts the Masters cos there is no difference between a novice's small house (who wants to dump it for training money etc) and a Master's house (Who needs the best price to upkeep his/her fleet of harvesters).

I dont understand people that just quit their professions. Why dont you guys just start a new character on another server and wait till your class gets fixed?
And find new friends, contacts, and the whole deal again? I already had Pistol 4 and Unarmed 2, so it wasn't a long jump to Scout. I quit it because I wasn't having any fun, I was just working at it. I don't pay them so I can work at this, I pay so I can have fun. Plus, I don't have any guarntee that it will ever be fixed. They may just add elite classes soI can toss away another class to do this.
And yeah, it is very top-heavy in Architects. I'd guess they outnumber Droid Engineers, Tailors, Armorsmiths, and Chefs combined. Only the Weaponsmith is close, and they can remain viable for some time. There are enough low-priced Architects on the server that it's just as cost effective for me to buy the structures as it was for me to collect the resources and build them.
In my case it was the custom orders that nested me 5 mil and helped me grind another profession. And because I didn't lowball and didn't sell stuff lower than 5 per unit Idon't have to do it now and have enough money just to mine and stockpile resources for the urban planner. That's the only reason I'm still keeping arch. I love the profession but it's not going anywhere.
Doran,
I agree with you on this one.
If you want to be able to sell at a low-price (not that you need to of course) then you have to harvest your own ore.
Like all resources, it won't always spawn in the most convenient location... sometimes you have to make the effort to go find it.
It can be a risk if you are realy short of cash... but there is always ore out there somewhere, and always >50%. You may not find a nice 70% (what I wouldnt give for one of these recently), but you shouldnt have a problem with 50+, but you MUST be willing to search for it. Often times they are out in the middle of nowhere.
I dont know that I would camp next to my harvesters.... I don't pay $15 a month to sit in one spot... but certainly you could stay on whatever planet you placed your harvesters on. Explore a bit.. learn the lay of the land.
Heck.. just mine some metal at 80%+ for a week and sell it.. you will be back in the game witha nice little bank roll befor you know it. It is not mandatory that you gain architect xp with every little bit of material that your harvesters pull up.
I made the decision a few days back to drop architect from my skill-set. I'd been working up it since day one, and made Master Architect a few weeks ago. Since then, I've seen the market on Eclipse hit the bottom-out stage that every one was expecting. Until I changed my title, I usually got 1-2 requests a day, but I got no sales from my vendors, and custom orders just aren't that profitable or fun. The cost of upkeep was more than the money I was making.
In the space of seven days, the two Master Architects in my guild quit the business. I had enough experience to get into the City Planner role when it came out. But waiting how many months for it to be developed and implemented wasn't worth it.
But even more so than that i was just plain sick of looking for ore in bulk. I never minded putting up the harvesters and getting the resources. But after the decent (44%) ore spot I had on Corelliadried up after less than two days. Then there wasn't anything above 25% within 2.5k of any city on Corellia, and no Ore on Naboo or Rori. That was it, and I gave up. I used up what surpluss I had to fill orders, built myself and my medic character enough harvesters to pull medical supplies.
So now I'm a Smuggler/Creature Handler/Squad Leader. And I don't miss Architect yet.
