In view of you plight with a shrinking demand, I was thinking of a happy medium that might be reached to make this a long lasting profession. I'm not an architect... was here looking for an architect on wanderhome, but thought I would throw this out there in hopes that you guys will push for it and make this a good profession.

The decay thing apparently has been beaten to death and I see many are opposed to it because they feel demand for houses would drop dramatically. While I don't think this would happen (us adventurer types need places to store all our crap and the bank just isn't enough) how about a happy medium. I think that factories and harvesters should have decay. These things really should be decaying anyway. A house just sits there. Factories and harvesters are full of moving parts that would wear out quickly. People using factories and harvesters are using them to make money, so they can't do without, unless they want to do without money. I think it would really be the best solution for everyone.

Most architects are looking for decay in ALL of our products. We are the only crafting class that uses this many resources, but has an indestructable final product.

If they dont give us decay, they should give us SOMETHING to eventually bring business back to the Architects.

Of course most want it... many though are aprehensive about it because they feel that adding decay means that less people are going to be buying houses, which might not fix the situation overall. No point in owning a house if you're not selling anything if you're just going to have to buy a new one later... in all honesty I don't know that I would buy a new house if I had to keep buying new houses. I'd just get rid of some of my junk that I like to keep around.

What I was suggesting was an idea to keep everyone happy. Architects will get repeat business from those making money off their buildings. The casual player that wants a house will still buy one because they won't be huge money sinks.

I think that when Player Cities come about there will be some Architects that will move that direction. With Player Cities I expect there will be increased demand as player towns will become places with Cantinas, Missions, Shuttle Ports, and other things that formerly were exclusive to the main cities.

When the chaotic sprawl that exists today becomes ordered communities with goods and services having a home in that community becomes more meaningful opening the market which is dominated by Crafters and Merchants presently.

I think adding new schematics for specialized houses which have a special property that can be experimented on but are subject to decay is an alternative. For example: Houses with properties like Recouperation for Regeneration or Sterilization for Medical Treatments or Defense for Combat etc. Making what exists worse becomes a NERF and a NERF will always be received negatively.

Adding Player Towns and New Schematics which have decay seems to be the way to invigorate the profession.
