If your worry is the market, you would not be alone. With the constant patches redetermining the value of one of the crucial elements of our repertoire, namely harvesters, those with profit in mind are on unsteady ground at the moment. The uncertainty regarding the impact of experimentation and the implementation of decay alsomay cause an architect to contemplate moving to a less stressful profession, such as the premier dancer in the Sarlacc Room (mind the stomach acid!). The resources that each higher-end item takes are prohibitive for anyone without the patience necessary to gather them. Our sales are large, however, and it only takes a couple to put you in a comfortable pecuniary state relatively quickly.

Once again, I must say that those who really enjoy our profession are those who love the idea of building structures that will change the landscape and make others content, to boot. I'm certain that there's another type of player who finds entertainment in our line of work -those who thrive on cut-throat business dealings and the quick business of making money. I'm not certain that they actually enjoy the profession itself, though.

The reason I BOUGHT the game was to play an architect. Maybe mess around with player cities too.

...and even my faith gets shaken in the profession from time to time.

The Pros:

You'll have the potential to make a lot of money.

You'll get to interact with some of the more interesting people on your server.

You'll get a chance to build something (semi) permanent in the game.

The problems we face are numerous, but not game breakingly so. (We aren't Chefs, poor guys)

Plus there seems to be a lot of growth potential in the class, what with all of the unbuildable furniture and structuresthat we can see, and the whole player cities thing coming up.

The Cons:

Making lots of money = Spending lots of time running to harvesters and crafting. Combat cash is more interesting and about as easy to make. I also have a combat character. The big difference is that the architect money comes in huge lumps. Does Architect make more money than a Combat character? Yes, but combat characters aren't spending 70,0000 or so a week(at a mimimun) to keep their heavy harvesters up. If you want "Ye Olde Fat Horde", I'd stay with combat.

You'll get to interact with some of the more annoying people on your server.

Architect, and some merchant (You'll need that), and artisan for at least engineering and surveying (most just go ahead and master it too)will eat up a sizable number of your skills. You'll probably need a littleScout for maskscentand terrain negotiation since chasing harvesters involves an insane amount of running. Pretty much forget about PVP. It's possible, but tough, and takes careful planning to not be killed crossing the street as an artisan. Holding on to the pistol would probably be a good idea. Maybe go TKA. Then you wouldn't have to worry about buying weapons, which cuts into profits and harvester time.

Explorationcan betough. Getting the time to go off world is tough enough, let alone surviving out in the wilds. You'll probably end up sticking to the starter worlds due to both time and difficulty of heavy combat as an artisan. You'll have a leg up there with pistol and brawler. Leveling elite weapons takes forever, if most of your time is spent crafting and running to harvesters.

Me, I love architect. I hate it too.

Figure out what you want to do in the game, and try it. The worst that can happen is you gotta retrain some BH levels. I'd pick up Novice, and head for Structures I. You'll know by the timeyou make that first house if it was worth it.

How's this for persuasion - I was a bounty hunter (on my other account) - decided to make the switch. Haven't looked back since. Love crafting and gathering. Its a good balance because of the points investment you CAN still PvE and craft. I love the mix - I'm not forced to do that stupid Investigation tier ALL DAY LONG just to make it a quarter of the way through the cell. I can take a break sit back and chit chat with friends while building some huge structures - further - you can still go out and lay down some pain. Good mix, I really like it - end

If you love the act of building something that you know will be used to further another's lifestyle or bring a bit of satisfaction to someone else, then this is the profession for you.

If you want to pick this profession up because a Jedi Holocron told you to, then I can't say that you'll enjoy this profession in the least.

DON'T DO IT!!

I hear amorsmith can customize with colors and the experimentation actually works. If you like to craft, I don't think you'll like this. We're a very neglected profession

Unless you are making the switch due to a holocron (which you said you aren't), then don't change your main. Make a character on another server and try out the engineering branch of artisan. If you can't handle the grind to expert engineer, then Architect probably isn't for you.
