Thread: Similar Modules VS. Identical Modules

I may not be a rocket scientist.. but from a lot of what I read it seems people do not realize the meanings behind these 2 phrases.

SIMILAR = crafted by the same person (can be hand made or factory, as long as its the same crafter making all of them)

IDENTICAL = factory made part with the same serial number (the parts must be made in a factory from the same schematic)

I have seen a lot of people crying about how hard walls are to make in the factory, and when I asked 3 of them why they did they told me they were required. I have not seen 1 schematic that now requires factory made walls. The few schematics that did require these were changed months ago. Is it simply that SOE never explained the terminology to people? Or is there something I've missed all this time?

Well, if anyone did not realize the difference in the meanings, I hope this helped!

Hey ripster, i responded in another post to this question, not sure if you saw it...

my reason for wanting to run walls in a factory (i never have to this point though due to the hassle) is 2fold.

walls in crates are easier to store... i can make up a large batch and not use up my entire hopper, house or bank to store them.

the other reason is to eliminate the crit fail possibility. If I could run 50 walls and be guaranteed to only lose 1 wall due to the schematic, it would be worth it to me if i don't have to hand feed every component anyway.

As it stands now, yes its simpler to just make em by hand, but i have to wait til i get an order to do it. If i could pre-run these like i do everything else its that much faster i can respond to a customer order when i get em.

Got your message in the other chat, but this was honestly intended for the few people that did not know similar did not mean factory.. I know it may sound weird, but I had to tell 2 people tonight on TC because they honestly thought similar items had to come from a factory. ( kicking myself for losing the factory sale because of it, be they'll both be back later to get them from me )

Nope. Similar just means, as far as I can tell, they have the same name. I regularly buy wall modules from junior architects, and I mix and match. When I do a PA hall, I may have walls done by as many as 4 or 5 different architects. They all count as similar.
