Wow, that's pointless!! Why on earth would I want to use furniture as storage when it reduces the amount of items I can store.
Thanks again to the devs for a change that is basically worthless.
Improved organization. I would agree that the furniture that holds less than 50 items isn't terribly useful to me, but things that hold more than 50 items are very useful.
A simple example - I have a standing offer to buy any herbivore meat of any quality and quantity for 10 cpu. I get really good stuff and really bad stuff. I get mainly current spawns, but also the occasional old spawn. I get big stacks and little stacks. Overall it's worth it since I get enough good quality meat and enough large stacks to make the small, low quality stacks not really matter. How do I manage this? By throwing all the stacks into a container and let the system sort out the combines. A backpack works great, as long as I maintain fewer than 50 stacks of meat. But as soon as I need to use 2 containers to hold the stacks, management of this becomes a hassle. So I either dedicate a factory to meat storage (to use a 100 item storage bin) or stay at a maximum of 49 stacks of meat. The new furniture lets me up my meat storage without going the factory route.
I'll freely admit that this is a strange usage of the new furniture, but for me, it's not useless. Besides, who wouldn't want a bookcase full of meat in their house?
